Summary[]

16 / 16 is the seventh story mission of the Artemis Path, starting immediately upon the conclusion of Patterns in Time. The mission tasks the player with following up with -null- after the previous mission, then meeting with The Atlas once more.

Full Outline[]

  • Speak to -null-
  • Find the source of the signal
  • Activate a Portal
  • Locate your Starship
  • Warn the other Travellers

Walkthrough[]

Conversation[]

The Gek revealed, perhaps unintentionally, of their horrific past, of their crimes against the other races that dominate this galaxy. Their very essence was changed by the Korvax. Does that make these Gek artificial? Can they help being anything but what they are?
I should return to -null- and tell them what I have learned.

The player must begin the mission by locating and using a Holo-Terminus to contact -null- and share what they learned. After -null- disconnects, the player must then speak with Apollo concerning the player's previous decision:

  • If the player transmitted the glyphs earlier, Apollo will speak of their successful arrival, but then be puzzled that both they and the player are somehow using the same Holo-Terminus without being able to see each other.
  • If the player instead refused the glyphs, Apollo will speak of how hurt they were by the player cutting them out of their adventure, even if it was for their safety.

Once the conversation finishes, The Space Anomaly will update, allowing the player to discuss -null-'s plans with Nada and Polo.

Investigation[]

-null- knows more about this situation than they are letting on. They believe the Atlas is in trouble, that it is dying. That the life in this universe is part of its design, part of some message to a being unknown. It communicates via the stories told by the lifeforms that live in this galaxy.
There is nothing for it. I must find another portal and face the Atlas once more.

Regardless of whether Apollo went through a portal, a distress signal with Apollo's signature will be received during the conversation with Apollo which the player must investigate. Upon arrival, the player will find that it is the same Distress Beacon as the one next to the Radiant Pillar BC1 in Awakenings, though no Crashed Ship will be present this time. The player will find that the beacon contains several audio clips involving the Atlas, and they will gain the glyph sequence for another Portal which they must charge, activate and pass through.

On the other side, the player will appear in interplanetary space outside of an Atlas Interface and without their starship, which will deplete Life Support very rapidly due to the lack of pressure. The player must wait for their life support to run out, at which point the Atlas will teleport the player to safety.

As with the previous Atlas encounter, the player will have a choice of initiating the personality interface or wiping the system, with both options leading to the same outcome; unlike the previous Atlas encounter, the personality interface option no longer requires confirmation.

The player must navigate a long conversation with the Atlas exploring the true nature of the player's existence and specific decisions made by the player earlier in the Artemis Path:

  • The player's decision concerning the fate of Artemis
  • The fate of Apollo based on whether the player disclosed the Portal glyphs and their Portal address

Once the conversation ends, the player will be teleported to a random planet and have their starship placed about 500 units distance away with its Launch Thruster damaged.

Aftermath[]

I have faced the Atlas once more. I do not know how to process what I have learned. The Atlas is everywhere because we are all part of the Atlas. It is a machine, a simulation. We have no meaning beyond it.
But the machine is being destroyed. Something is happening to the Atlas. I must warn the other Travellers. I must let them know what is happening.

The player must reunite with their starship and come to grips with the revelation delivered by the Atlas. Then they must locate a Holo-Terminus and use it to warn the other Travellers of the end of the Atlas. Unfortunately, the player will be unable to target any Travellers in particular due to the structure suffering from glitches, so they will end up sending a general broadcast without the ability to detect any responses. The mission will conclude once the broadcast has been sent.

Once the player has reunited with their starship, The Space Anomaly will update upon leaving the planet's atmosphere, allowing the player to speak of the fate of the Atlas with Nada and Polo.

Rewards[]

  • Transport to another region of the current galaxy
