AGT NMS DB Tool Guide is an instruction guide for the AGT Galactic Archives DB Tool.

Important Notice[]

AGT Travellers may be approved for special privileged access to the AGT Galactic Archives DB Tool (Referred to simply as the Tool from here on). Note that at present only approved AGT Travellers have access. If you would like to be considered for access, please submit an application here.

Travellers who do not have access to the tool can still submit their AGT discoveries, see AGT Tools and Forms.

Documenting Discoveries[]

AGT Travellers are requested to document discoveries on this NMS Gamepedia website. As a guideline, the best tool available to Travellers is the screenshot function in the NMS game, use it frequently to capture screens of useful information which can be used offline to create entries into the Tool.

For a guide on information to collect to preparing using the tool and for the screens that are useful to screenshot, see AGT Guide For DB Screenshots.

Overview of The Tool[]

Structure of the Tool[]

The Tool is composed of the following tabs which are relevant to end users users:

  • READ ME FIRST - Like it implies, read it first
  • Updates - A list of daily feature updates in the tool. Important ones will be highlight in RED.
  • Region DB - If you are entering data, you MUST make sure the region for your data exist first, If not you must enter a new region in the rows. If you do not do this, you cannot proceed to enter in other tabs.
  • System DB - Database for Star systems. A row MUST be completed for each star system BEFORE trying to enter data for fauna, multi-tools, starships or planets in that star system
  • Planet DB - Database for planets. One row per planet or moon in each star system
  • Planet POI DB - Database for recording Point of Interest on a planet.
  • Fauna DB - Database for Fauna/creatures. One row per fauna on a planet

  • Star Distance (Inter-region) - (BETA, not for general users access as in development) A tool for recording distances between stars in adjacent regions

All other TABs in the Tool are not available to be changed by the general user.

Entry of Data[]

In general for ALL Database tabs, GREY CELLS should NEVER be edited. Please only enter data into WHITE cells for the DB pages. AUTO-XXX pages only allow editing of a single cell that is highlighted in GREEN, always in the first row, normally in column C or D.

Data Interdependencies[]

Wiki pages will depend on data to be entered in the DB rows else the wiki pages generated will be incomplete. In many cases, the DB entry is dependent in one DB to pre-entry of information in another DB. Some examples:

  • System DB: Requires a region to be already defined in the RegionDB before a system can be entered for that region in the system DB
  • SYSTEM DB: Identification of a planet of interest in SYSTEM DB requires the planet to already exist in the PlanetDB
  • SYSTEM DB: A multi-tool cannot be assigned to a space station in the SYSTEM DB until the Multi-tool is defined in the Multi-Tool DB
  • AUTO-Planet: A planet wiki page can only include multi-tools, fauna and bases if the multitools, Fauna and bases pages exist on the wiki and are assigned to that planet. Note that the fauna and bases pages can be created on the wiki before or after the planet page. The system wiki page will EVENTUALLY pick it up and display it in the right list on the wiki page.
  • AUTO-SYSTEM: A system page can only include Planets/moons IF the planets/moons have already been entered into their respective DB. Starships, bases and tools will only be listed on the final wiki page if the starships, bases and multi-tool pages have been created on the wiki and assigned to that star system. Note that the starships, multi-tool pages can be created on the wiki before or after the system page. The system wiki page will EVENTUALLY pick it up and display it in the right list on the wiki page.

Order of Entry of Data[]

Note that if you want to use the database to generate pages for the wiki, it is MANDATORY to follow the workflow in this order in the DB tools.

Convertor[]

This tab has a galactic coordinate/Glyph convertor tool for manual work similar to the NMS Portal Decoder Website.

Star Distance Modeller[]

Travellers can record the inter-star distances between stars in the same region. This database is used by the AGT Department of Stellar Cartography to create 3D maps and models using AGT NAVI.

A minimum of four distances per star are required to accurately position a star in the 3D mapping tool.

Enter Star System A, and its region and galactic coordinates will be automatically populated. Do the same for star system B. Then enter the distance (in light years) between the stars.

If star system A and B are in different regions then star system B will will highlight in Orange to warn you of a non-matching pair.

Star Distance (Inter-region)[]

Travellers can record the inter-star distances between stars in the adjacent region. This database will be used by the AGT Bureau of Stellar Cartography to position regions in 3D in a galaxy map in a tool currently under development at the bureau.

Currently it is anticipated that a minimum of four distances per region pair are required to accurately position a region in the 3D mapping tool.

Enter Star System A, and its region and galactic coordinates will be automatically populated. Do the same for star system B. Then enter the distance (in light years) between the stars.

The tool is currently in early development stages as of 18-Jan-2021.

Notes[]

The AGT strongly encourages all Travellers to document their own discoveries. The traveller is free to add additional details to each planet including fauna, flora, locations, points of interest etc.
