AGT Naming Convention Guidelines is a Policy Article.
Summary[]
The AGT Naming Convention Guidelines outlines how AGT members should name elements in their discoveries across any platform (PC, PS, Xbox, Nintendo, Mac) and mode (Creative, Normal, Survival, Permadeath).
All members are requested to adhere to these naming conventions to encourage development of the Alliance of Galactic Travellers presence in the No Mans Sky universe.
Naming of Star system and planets in this format is mandatory for all employees. Reckless and continued non-compliance will result in termination of a travellers relationship with the organization.
We do ask that all seriousness is taken into consideration with regard to naming discoveries.
General Naming Guidelines[]
Special Character Avoidance[]
It is important to avoid specific punctuation characters, even if they appear in the game names, as they will cause problems for documentation. These characters should NOT be used in names of ships, planets, fauna, multi-tools, starships etc. as they will cause problems for documentation on the wiki:
/ \ & : ; < > [ ] ' " ? % # { } *
Abusive Naming[]
In general, the company will dictate no names be used that are overtly or implicitly related to
- racism
- profanity
- sexism
- abuse
- calls to violence
System names that exhibit such styles will be reported to Hello Games for moderation.
Star System Naming[]
The following guidance for is the nomenclature for naming systems:
AGT + user provided name
As a general rule of thumb, simply add AGT as a prefix (before) any star systems you upload to the servers.
In general, it is recommended that the name used is rooted by the original procedural generated name (or obvious root of it by example dropping off superfluous suffixes or numbers). The traveller is free to however create their own name for system as long as they use the AGT prefix.
Example: System Naming[]
Example | Original Star System Name | Recommended Name 1 | Recommended Name 2 |
---|---|---|---|
01 | Alphapone | AGT Alphapone | AGT Alphapone Alpha yourlabel |
02 | Alphapone Prime | AGT Alphapone | AGT Alphapone Prime yourlabel |
03 | Alphapone XIX | AGT Alphapone | AGT Alphapone XIX yourlabel |
04 | Alphapone XIX | AGT MyBigAlpha | AGT Mybighappyalpha |
Suffixes[]
Suffixes are not mandatory, however the AGT Traveller may add a suffix as deemed for their own use.
The exception for this is when naming in a designated Travellers Foundation region, which have mandatory suffixes. Travellers should not use these suffixes except in regions and galaxies where they are to be used.
There are specific regions set aside in a several galaxies where the suffix appropriate to that AGT galaxy foundation operates should be applied. Naming in other regions not identified for a Travellers Foundation does not require use the suffix.
Planets[]
In general, no renaming is mandatory unless the planet has a special character (most commonly, the / character appears). If the traveller wishes to rename, then it is best to:
- Ensure the Naming Warning against special characters, specifically /
- Use an AGT prefix (optional)
- Use a suffix as desired by traveller (optional)
Example: Planet Naming[]
For example, if the system has three planets, we suggest the following:
Example | Original Planet Name | Name Style 1 | Name Style 2 | Name Style 3 |
---|---|---|---|---|
01 | Alphapone | Alphapone | AGT Alphapone yoursuffix | Alphapone yoursuffix |
02 | Alphapone Prime | Alphapone Prime | AGT Alphapone Prime yoursuffix | Alphapone yoursuffix |
03 | Alphapone 56/C1 | Alphapone | AGT Alphapone 56 yoursuffix | Alphapone 56 yoursuffix |
Ships[]

Ship Naming Convention Example
Although not compulsory, we would offer suggestion that you prefix your chosen name with AGT. Examples:
- AGT Alice CTF
- AGT Hub Spirit
- AGT FordPerfect II
- AGT October Sky iVc
- AGT Pearl Hauler
- AGT Sentry Hunter
- AGT Groenskip IV
Please note: When creating a new wiki entry for a renamed ship, be sure to create the page using the ORIGINAL name of the ship, not the rename.
Special Consideration Systems[]
In certain locations and circumstances, the AGT may follow expanded naming conventions specific to key operations or projects. However the basic addition of 'AGT' will always form part of any agreed expanded naming.
