Atmosphere is an aspect of a biome.

Summary[ | ]

The atmosphere of a planet or moon is somewhat defined by the type of biome on that planet/moon.

There are three distinct elements of the atmosphere of any celestial body, but only one is provided with qualification in the simulation, the others can only be inferred through observation.

Atmosphere Composition[ | ]

This is the only element of the atmosphere that is explicitly described in the game menus. If a traveller opens the Exploration Guide while on the surface of a planet or moon, they will be able to observe a description of the planet atmosphere.

In all biomes (except dead planets/moons), the description provide a breakdown of the primary and secondary elements, their relative percentage in the atmosphere, and a phrase 'Trace Others' to capture all others not listed.

The primary gas (P) will normally range between 50-70%. The secondary gas (S) will range between 20-30%. The total will never e-ceed 99%. - indicates that the gas is not present in this biome atmosphere.

Atmosphere Color[ | ]

The color of an atmosphere is not explicitly defined in any way, thus it is inferred only by observation. As color observation impressions vary from personal interpretation, the color variance can only be a guide to what is possible. In general for all biomes except Dead, the colors will change, sometimes dramatically during dusk and dawn periods of the day, and then stablise into a stable color pattern for daylight hours.

Color may be affected by storms, typically this means colors become more grey and drab, and less sharp. The exception is the 'Frozen biome, when it may simply become more white.

The Dead biome, as it has no atmosphere will always have a black sky in both day and night periods, albeit daylight will show brighter surface reflection.

The Frozen biome will generally always feature a blue sky.

All other biomes will feature a range of colors, typically the Marsh biome is more likely to have grey tones and darker tone colors.

Atmosphere Haze/Fog[ | ]

In general, fog is more prevalent in Marsh and Mega Exotic biomes, although it may be observed in any biome. It is also more common in any of these biomes that has Tall mountain Terrain Archetypes.
