Biome - Frozen
Biome - Frozen
Type Biome
Description Covered by ice and snow
Updated NextGen

Frozen is one of the Biome varieties.

Worlds with a frozen biome resemble lush worlds in the ice ages, having a surface covered by ice and snow. Trees tend to sprawl quite a lot here. However, the less the amount of flora, the higher the amount of dead trees. When viewed from space, these worlds are generally snow-white in colour with a few dots. The resources Dioxite, Frost Crystal, and Radon can be found here.

Name generation[]

Another freezing planet.

The biome type is indicated in the information panel when the player exits their starship. This is procedurally generated by adding one of the following prefixes to the Planet or Moon text.

The sequence is taken from the game file.

  1. Frozen
  2. Icebound
  3. Arctic
  4. Glacial
  5. Sub-zero
  6. Icy
  7. Frostbound
  8. Freezing
  9. Hiemal
  10. Hyperborean

  • Hazard protection is always on due to frigid temperatures. Thermic Layer upgrades are recommended, especially on extreme worlds.
  • Cold storms can occur, draining hazard protection approximately three times more quickly than normal.
  • Extremely frozen worlds drains hazard protection at the same rate during a storm in a normal frozen world.
  • Storms in extremely frozen worlds drain hazard protection approximately three times more quickly.

Extreme frozen planets are obscured by heavy snowfall. Blizzards can get really intense, with temperatures plummeting below -140°C (-220°F). Example: Rolofal

Clear (No storms) Normal Extreme
Crisp Drifting Snowstorms Deep Freeze
Freezing Frozen Clouds Frequent Blizzards
Frost Harsh, Icy Winds Hazardous Whiteouts
Icy Icy Blasts Howling Blizzards
Permafrost Ice Storms Icy Tempests
Powder Snow Infrequent Blizzards Ice Storms
Snowy Migratory Blizzards Intense Cold
Wintry Occasional Snowfall Raging Snowstorms
Outbreaks of Frozen Rain Roaring Ice Storms
Wandering Frosts Supercooled Storms

Frozen worlds seem to enter the exotic pre-stage of the Bone Spire corruption during their exotification. Their appearance implies that their corruption and ultimate loss of coherence in the wake of the Atlas' demise is one and the same and may shed a light on the origin of those chromatics.

Additional Information[]

  • The name generation and the sequence are extracted from the 1.77 version of NMS_UPDATE3_ENGLISH.MBIN game file.
  • It is possible that certain dead planets were once frozen, considering the fact that certain dead planets look like frozen ones on first sight.
