Cobalt is a resource.

Summary[ | ]

Cobalt (Co) is a resource and one of the earth elements.

Game description[ | ]

Mined from underground minerals, cobalt is found in plentiful supply in caves and caverns. Useful in the manufacture of Ion Batteries.

It is used in the creation of several technologies and structures, and can be processed in a Refiner to make the most of its inherent charge.

Source[ | ]

Cobalt can be refined using a Refiner with the following ingredients:

  • SUBSTANCE.CAVE.2 Ionised Cobalt ×1  →  SUBSTANCE.CAVE.1 Cobalt ×2  ("Deionise Mineral", 0.12 sec./unit output)

Use[ | ]

Crafting[]

Cobalt is used as an ingredient for crafting the following products:

Refining[]

Cobalt is used as an ingredient for refining the following products using a Refiner:

Cooking[]

Cobalt is not used as an ingredient for cooking using a Nutrient Processor.

Trivia[ | ]

  • Cobalt (derived from German Kobalt, from Kobold, which means goblin) is an element only found in Earth's crust in chemically combined forms, save for small deposits of alloys from natural meteoric iron. Cobalt's name origin was superstitious with early cobalt miners and since cobalt's primary ores always contain arsenic, smelting the ore would oxidize the arsenic into highly-toxic and volatile arsenic oxide. Like in No Man's Sky, Cobalt is commonly used widely in lithium-ion battery cathodes in the form of lithium-cobalt oxide but nickel-cadmium and nickel-metal hydride batteries also utilize cobalt to improve nickel oxidation in batteries.
