Corvette is a type of starship.

Summary[]

The Corvette is a class of Starship, introduced in Voyagers Update. They are bigger than standard spacecrafts, but smaller than freighters and frigates.

The key difference compared to other player operated starship is the corvette is nearly completely customisable. The operator/captain (you or a friend) can ferry other players as passengers to other planets, star systems, space stations, or freighters, etc.

Corvettes take up a starship slot. They can be exchanged or added to the player collection.

Unlike all other starships, the corvette cannot be found for acquisition in any other way in the game.

Creating A Corvette[]

You can modify your corvette(s) at any time at the space station, so don't worry if your first one is not perfect, you can improve it.

1 Obtain modules[]

To build a corvette, you first need modules. Visit any populated space station, walk through the warp points on the left to be transported to the corvette platforms near the space station's exit, and interact with the Corvette Workshop console.

You have several options to get Corvette Modules:

  • Buy modules at the Corvette Workshop console.
They are expensive, only basic ones are available, but it's easy if it's your first.
  • Trade modules at the Corvette Workshop console.
You can choose which modules you'll get, but you need many (1-3) spares to trade for one.
  • Explore Salvaged Scrap.
The modules are free, all types can be found, but it's random.
  • Loot from pirate battles, frigate expeditions, missions, crashed freighters and derelict freighters.
The modules are free, all types can be found, but it's random.

At minimum, you must obtain:

  • landing gear
  • habitation module
  • access module
  • cockpit
  • reactor
  • main engine
  • Weapon System

Optionally, obtain shields, windows, platings, hull attachments, flight stabilisers.

Aside: Design Styles[]

Note: The modules have different names which imply different design styles. The functionality of the modules will be the same. Over time, as you collect more, you can swap them out and try different ones, and decide which style you like.

  • Thunderbird - pragmatic and gritty with exposed pipework
  • Ambassador - elegant, round, soft, clean, retro-futuristic
  • Titan - militaristic, with many monitoring panels, buttons, gauges, screens

At first, don't worry about it, just use which ever parts that you have, you can swap them out later.

Misc: Thunderbird-class corvette parts seem to be directly inspired by the Frontier ship from Starfield with the interior strongly resembling such of a Millenium Falcon from Star-Wars, while the Ambassdor and Titan class interiors seem to be directly inspired by various interiors from the Alien franchise, like the USCSS Nostromo.

Some interior designs have typography similar to Semiotic Standard, with repeating signs that mean "WARNING/HAZARD", "RADIATION HAZARD" and an unknown sign that does not seem to exist in the symbol list. Some signs even appear to have different color, though the image itself is not changed.[1]

2 Create the Corvette[]

To build a corvette, return to the Corvette Workshop console in the space station and click Create New Corvette.

  1. The console will switch you to a build mode.
  2. Press Z to get the build menu.
  3. Select and place the landing gear first.
  4. On top of it place larger modules, such as the habitation.
  5. Attach the access module to the habitation back.
  6. Attach the cockpit module to the habitation front.
  7. Add main engines and reactor where ever it looks good.

The ship will fly equally well whether it's symmetrical or asymmetrical.

As of Update 6.03 there is a 160 part maximum.

Apply your changes. You can also store and continue later. Other players only see applied changes. A name for the ship will automatically be generated, which you can change later.

3 Decorate the interior[]

After the outer shape is finished and saved, enter the parked corvette and press Z inside. This opens an interior build menu. Continue to add a bed, refinery, cargo containers, or windows, these are corvette specific modules. Players can also add most buildable items that they'd use on a planetary base. These parts require materials, just as when you build a base. There is no part maximum for inside. (Other than the save-wide 16.000 placeable objects limit )

Just as with a base, you can change the colour of some Corvette parts.

Note: The interior parts can look different in style, too, depending on whether you place them in a Thunderbird, Ambassador, or Titan habitation module.

Mechanics[]

The simplest ship is just one habitation with cockpit, thruster, and access ramp. But the more modules you find, the bigger you can build!

Habitation modules have an impact on cargo size and outer Corvette size. You can build several habitations, one after the other (horizontal), or one next to each other (horizontal), or on top of each other (vertical) to build larger corvettes.

  • for horizontally aligned habitations, the game will insert passages for players to walk through.
  • for vertically aligned habitations, enter the bottom floor and open the build menu, and select a ladder module, and place it to go upstairs.

Engines have an impact on your speed, you can have several, even a mix of types.

You can have a mix of landing gears. You can have a mix of weapons.

Shields have an impact on shield strength.

You can only have one cockpit.

Each part gives slightly different stat boosts depending on if it's the first, second or third of that type you've placed. If you're smart about it, you can get the best boost for each part by choosing the parts that have generated with the biggest bonuses, for example using one of each of the 3 shield modules, but placing them in the order that gives the best boost for each. Any more than 3 provide no additional bonuses.
