Defence Chit is a consumable product.
Summary[ | ]
Defence Chit is a consumable product used to summon aid when your starship is engaged by pirates for a space battle.
Defence Chits are used when first beset by pirates. When used, a Chit summons sentinels to fight the pirates alongside of you. It is worth noting that the sentinels are typically not capable enough to defeat the pirates for you. You will either need to assist them or flee while the pirates are occupied. Additionally you can fire upon sentinel starships, intentionally or otherwise, and add them to the number of ships you need to defeat or outrun.

A token, entitling the bearer to support from the system authorities in dealing with pirate attacks.
Build[ | ]
Defence Chits are not standard products in that they cannot be built by players. Instead they are acquired through missions or through trade. At the Mission Board, delivery type missions will put into your inventory whatever items you need to deliver plus one Defence Chit. This Chit will remain in your inventory until used, even after you have completed or abandoned the mission.

Inventory[ | ]
Defence Chits stack up to five in Exosuit They also stack up to five in Starship or Exosuit Cargo inventory slots, and up to ten in storage container or freighter inventory slots. You may use a Defence Chit if it is in your Exosuit or Starship inventories.
Use of Defence Chits[ | ]
When first threatened by pirates you receive notice of "Emergency Comms Established" and a six-second clock will count down to zero. If you act within those seconds then you move to a communication screen, otherwise the pirates open fire on you. To open the communication screen:
- PS4: - press down on the PS4 D-Pad and then press X.
- PC: - by default you must press the X key to open the quickbar, use Q and E to navigate the quickbar to the communications option and press F to answer.
The communication screen shows a threat from the pirates and four options:
- Refuse
- Bargain
- Comply
- Alert authorities
This last option will remove one Defence Chit from your inventory and summon the sentinels. Be aware that it takes time for the sentinels to appear, with the fastest response times being centred around the space station and freighter convoys.
