F. Gutkapeus is a creature.
Summary[]
F. Gutkapeus is a creature in the No Man's Sky universe.
It is an especially large member of the Bos genus, with some examples reaching a staggering 8.1m tall. One of the genders is a Lesser Mushroom Beetle, which are particularly difficult to find in mega-sized examples such as this. F. Gutkapeus spawns rampantly all over the planet's surface.
Appearance[]
The Rational gender of this supercolossal species is an orange and red colored beetle with huge claws, adorned with a huge mushroom cap on its back. Its antennae are colored with teal tips. Investigation (with flashlight) of the underside of the mushroom cap, of the margin (cap edge) and gills (vertical structures under the cap), reveals that the top of the stem appears to be adorned with the same teal color. Further research is required to determine if this color correspondence is ubiquitous among mushroom beetles.
F. Gutkapeus is nicknamed "Truffle" after the fungal appearance of the Rational gender. Truffles are highly prized and delicious fungi, having been called "the diamond of the kitchen". Truffles are rare and expensive due to the difficulty associated with their farming. One challenge often facing farmers is the Leiodes cinnamomeus, or "Truffle Beetle". The reddish orange color of the Truffle Beetle, as seen in an engraving from Cutler's 19th century classic work on entomology, is quite similar to the coloration of F. Gutkapeus.
The Orthogonal gender has a head resembling a mantis, with large yellow eyes and long antennae. In contrast to the Rational gender, its tall legs are hairy and arachnidian.

Discovery Menu[]
Found wandering the scorched plains of the planet Dolandalt Minor. Long-lived and gentle, their rich lives and complex society hierarchy allow them to develop wisdom that rivals technologically advanced species. Leaf-eaters, their teeth are too soft to eat most vegetable matter. As such, they consume only soft, fresh leaves.
