Over 500+ systems in HUB1 were named and tracked with a shared Google spreadsheet. (Read-Only Copy of Spreadsheet)
  • PS4 User Gainsdalf found the Top of the Tree 3 (ToTT3) but accidentally gave system default name of Rastand-Ink due to the pressure to name it properly and created the ARK Proejct members' inside joke of "Gainsdalfing".
  • Several other base sharing mechanics and testing was done during this time to help Hub members including testing of limits, farms, teleportation, and traveling to the new region.
  • HUBer was also coined at this time too and still is the most effective way to get to the Galactic Hub without having any warp upgrades.

  • As detailed in this thread, various colonies were closed following the Origins Update-era fauna extinction event, which rendered all fauna previously inhabiting the simulation as extinct.
  • This included the capital colony on New Lennon, the tropical Interloper Island colony on Axby Delta, the Logra Lake Diplo Ranch colony on Jolivi, and the winter colony of Mount Loper. These colonies were all based on the presence of now-extinct Rangifae (diplo) fauna being present, except Axby Delta, which was established due to the presence of a Greater Mushroom Beetle.
  • All colonies unaffected by fauna extinction events remained open.
  • This marked the first official closure of any Galactic Hub colony, although capital colonies like Drogradur NO425 (Pathfinder) had been informally abandoned in the past.

2020, October 1 - Rave Colony on Electric Diplo Carnival & Lepios Opens[ | ]

  • Totokenn City opened on this day. It was the first colony to use a new and unique community model pioneered by interloper Zaowly. This model would go on to inspire the Galactic Hub's Colony Governor system.
  • Under the Totokenn City model, players all lived in a single base, allowing the base architect to remove an individual's pieces if the individual becomes inactive and stops playing. Players joined together to complete missions written and organized by Zaowly. These missions are meant to fit the colony's own backstory / narrative.

2022, Dec 9 - Rattlespine Park, the 1st Paid Colony, Opens for Residents[ | ]

  • Rattlespine Park began accepting reservations on this day. It was the first colony to charge its residents rent (100 Hubcoin) while also allowing them to earn more than that amount back if they complete missions. This provided a way to drive activity in the colony, and a way to know who was still active and who might need to be cleared out.
  • Similarly to Totokenn City, Rattlespine Park consists of a single base. Separate bases such as Rattlespine Prison and Rattlespine Market would go on to be constructed in the future, as part of the colony-specific missions.

Gamepro

  • 2017, March 25 - German gaming journalism website Gamepro published a (largely inaccurate) article on the Hub, [No Man's Sky - Wie sich die Community das Versprechen vom Multiplayer selbst erfüllt (How the community fulfills the promise of multiplayer itself)]. This article mentions odd practices that aren't known to actually occur, like selling the location of NMS gold deposits for real-world money.

  • 2023, March 31 - MMORPG published an article, "How is No Man's Sky's Player-built Blockchain Economy Working?" This article covers the ongoing developments within the HubCoin economy since its launch. There is a small inaccuracy where the article touches on the problem of "inflation" while actually describing symptoms closer to deflation.
