The Galactic Hub Star League is a sports league.

Summary[ | ]

The Galactic Hub Star League (GHSL) is the competitive simulation sports organization sponsored by the Galactic Hub.

"Simulation Sports" is the umbrella category for any form of live-multiplayer or time-trial-based competitive event in No Man's Sky, such as mutually-agreed-upon player-versus-player (PVP) battles, exocraft racing, on-foot racing, starship battles, and many other possible events. Star League events are hosted in Normal mode on all platforms.

The mission of the Galactic Hub Star League is to:

  • Create fun, accessible, and engaging events and competitions for the community
  • Provide training, tips, & techniques for citizens competing in events
  • Ensure events happen on a reliable and routine basis
  • Share events media such as promotions, screenshots, and videos with the citizens of the Galactic Hub for their entertainment
  • Offer awards and incentives for Interlopers to participate in Star League such as custom in-game rewards, HubCoin Hubcoin, and occasionally real-life rewards

Participating in Star League[ | ]

Signing Up & Statistic Tracking[ | ]

To join in on Star League conversation and official events, you must join the Galactic Hub Discord server. Then, navigate to the "#!-role-select" channel and choose "Star League" from the drop-down menu. This will assign you the Star League role. With that role assigned, you will be notified any time a new Star League event is being announced! You may also receive notifications for other major Star League announcements, like significant rule changes.

Once you've joined the Discord, you may compete in any official Star League event. Once you have participated in your first event, you will be added to the official Star League Roster. This page tracks a competitor's Star League statistics for public viewing: your team can check how good you are, the enemy team can check how much of a threat you are, and spectators can check who they should place their bets on. All of the stat-tracking process will be handled by GHSL Administration.

Players who achieve a rank of SL7 will be granted an official Star League ID. At this point you will be asked to provide a screenshot of your character, and bragging rights are in order.

Star League Rank[ | ]

The Star League Rank (SLR) system is handled by the GHSL Administration (SLA).

  • All players start with an SLR of 0
  • If a player is victorious in an official match, they will add a point to their SLR
  • Wins and kills are tracked, losses and deaths are not

Spectating[ | ]

These events are driven by exciting competition and community engagement, so spectators are encouraged to join and watch! As incentive, spectators will receive a rate of P*5 Hubcoin (where P is the total number of participants and spectators present) for attending - which may be used for betting on the games or supporting your local Galactic Hub Marketplace.

Hosting[ | ]

Any Galactic Hub citizen can host a Star League event - the right is not solely reserved for the Administration. Any Interloper can propose a Division and game mode in order to allow friendly competition between Travelers. It is recommended that official Division rules should be followed and maintained in order to ensure fair gameplay between all participants.

Any notions of "gaming the system" will be met with recourse against the offending parties, beginning with revoking their right to host and/or participate in Star League.

Of course, certain events may have unique rules, and are allowed for the enjoyment of all involved parties. Still, any major deviation from standard rulesets should be approved by a member of the SLA. This includes HubCoin Hubcoin payouts.

Star League hosts are awarded a standard payout of 150 Hubcoin. This value may be altered on an individual basis dependent on the effort involved in hosting a particular event. Micro Matches, events with four or fewer participants, have no hosting bonus due to their typically casual nature.

Events from non-SLA members can always be announced in the #star-league channel on the official Galactic Hub Discord server. Official Discord Events may be created for these occasions as well, and all such requests should be directed towards the Star League Director, Augment Echo.

Hublic Broadcasting Service[ | ]

The Hublic Broadcasting Service pays a standard rate of P*10 Hubcoin (where P is the total number of participants and spectators present) to any Hublic Broadcasting Service staff member providing media coverage.

Build Commissions[ | ]

The Star League Administration may at times commission builds to be used in officially sanctioned competition. This includes combat arenas, exocraft racetracks, starship courses, and Tritium builds. Members of the Galactic Hub Builders Guild receive standard commission rates of 500 HubCoin Hubcoin per build. Freelance contracts for Star League builds come at rates of 300 HubCoin Hubcoin per build. Rates may vary based on effort, complexity, and the ongoing evolution of the HubCoin economy.

Volunteering for GHSL Administration[ | ]

First, complete the GHSL Volunteer Form.

After filling out the GHSL Volunteer Form, you may reach out to the Star League Director, Augment Echo, who will examine your volunteer application and evaluate any other relevant information.

The goal of the application is to have an understanding of your planning, hosting, and refereeing capabilities, and to ensure your Galactic Hub citizenship, and to evaluate your willingness to serve the Galactic Hub community. After an application is processed, applicants will be contacted via Discord.

Cadmium Division - Planetside Combat[ | ]

The Cadmium Division focuses primarily on planetside combat, most commonly Multi-Tool battles.

Cadmium Division Ruleset[ | ]

Codifying standards is an important step in creating a strong pan-galactic sporting community, bootstrapping newcomers, and allowing sanctioning bodies to function in a fair and decentralized fashion.

Star League recognizes one set of regulations which can be applied to any organized event:

  • All Multi-Tools used must be post-NEXT Multi-Tools, due to their hidden base stats being significantly higher during this era, and these weapons are now unattainable through vanilla means
  • The Neutron Cannon is forbidden unless otherwise specified, due to its simply overpowered nature
  • The Geology Cannon is forbidden unless otherwise specified, due to terrain manipulation
  • Save editing and mods are forbidden if they cause a breach of any other rules
  • All damage taken is legal and relevant; falls, Life Support and Hazard Protection damage caused by unpowered systems in extreme weather or environments, Sentinel defenses or pirate attacks, unhappy flora, fauna ambushes, and of course... anomalous combat

The following Difficulty Settings must be adhered to for a fair and fun experience, unless otherwise stated for specific events:

  • Survival Elements: not None
  • Damage Levels: not None
  • Enemy Strength: Standard

Additional Recommendations:

  • Technology Damage: None
  • Death Consequences: No Item Loss
  • Fuel Usage & Sprinting: Any - Although affecting the multiplayer experience, this setting is not enforced for standard matches and can be set to any level

Damage Potential Limit (DPL) is the maximum amount of damage possible to achieve on a Multi-Tool through vanilla means. The following limits are enforced:

To enforce this ruleset, any competitor may be asked at any point to submit proof of their Traveler's loadout, or face forfeiture and other possible repercussions.

Planetside Combat[ | ]

Multi-Tool battles are often hosted at arena bases designed for PvP combat. These arenas are almost always located in Galactic Hub space, though occasional trips to other locations have occurred for special circumstances, such as Unification Day.

The primary objective of most Multi-Tool battles is to kill your opponent without dying.

Match Formats:

  • Solo Combat: 1v1 competition where the last Traveler standing is the winner
  • Team Combat: 2v2 or larger team-based competitions where the last Traveler standing secures a victory for all players on their team
  • Free-for-All Combat: 3+ competitors where the last Traveler standing is the winner
  • Objective-Based Combat: Any number of Travelers fighting against each other to achieve a specified objective
  • Hand-to-Hand Combat: Any number of Travelers fighting against each other with pure martial skills

Other non-standard match formats may emerge over time or often on-the-spot during events, falling into the above categories. Examples include:

  • Juggernaut: 1v2+ competition where the solo Traveler is allowed advantages over the other Travelers, to which many modifiers may be applied
  • OGZ: 2v2 or larger team-based competition where the goal is to infiltrate your opponent's tower and launch a firework, with Exocraft and Starships in play, and respawning allowed

Battle modifiers allow for further variety in competitions. Feel encouraged to have fun with it as long as all players agree to new rulesets!

Emeril Division - Racing[ | ]

The Emeril Division currently encompasses all racing sports, both with Exocraft and Starships.

Emeril Division Ruleset[ | ]

When it comes to racing, anything vanilla is fair game in regards to technology and upgrades. Specific vehicles are often required for events.

Racing[ | ]

Racing comes in multiple formats. Scoring is commonly point-based, where P1 earns 3 points, P2 earns 2 points, and P3 earns 1 point. This can be expanded or adjusted as needed per racing event.

Match Formats:

  • Exocraft Track Racing: Racing on a primarily player-constructed circuit or waypoint track
  • Exocraft Leyline Racing: Racing on a primarily natural circuit or waypoint track
  • Starship Course Racing: Racing on a designated, often player-constructed starship course
  • Starship Landmark Racing: Racing between two or more long-distance locations, potentially utilizing checkpoints
  • Multi-Mode Racing: Racing by various means, or with relayed racers. For example; racing Pilgrims to pre-parked Starships, which are then raced to a final landing location
  • Death Racing: Racing that includes combat; the only violent category of Emeril Division
  • Foot Racing: Racing - you guessed it - on foot, potentially with jetpack usage

Indium Division - Starship Combat[ | ]

The Indium Division encompasses all competition focused on Starship combat.

Indium Division Ruleset[ | ]

Codifying standards is an important step in creating a strong pan-galactic sporting community, bootstrapping newcomers, and allowing sanctioning bodies to function in a fair and decentralized fashion.

Star League recognizes one set of regulations which can be applied to any organized event:

  • Competing Starships cannot have any damage Upgrade Modules installed; only Buildable Technology requiring a blueprint may be used. All types of Starship Weapons technology are acceptable, and the Starship weapon's loadout is up to the competitor unless a particular loadout is specified by the event.
  • Manual shield recharging using Sodium/Sodium Nitrate/Starshield Battery/etc. is disallowed
  • Save editing and mods are forbidden if they cause a breach of any other rules
  • All damage taken is legal and relevant; collisions of any kind, Sentinel defenses or pirate attacks, and of course... starship combat

The following Difficulty Settings must be adhered to for a fair and fun experience, unless otherwise stated for specific events:

  • Damage Levels: Minimal
  • Enemy Strength: Weak

Additional Recommendations:

  • Technology Damage: None
  • Death Consequences: No Item Loss
  • Fuel Usage: Any - Although affecting the multiplayer experience, this setting is not enforced for standard matches and can be set to any level
  • Starship Combat Auto-Follow: Disabled - Enabling this is largely considered a detriment to competitive abilities in aerial PvP combat

To enforce this ruleset, any competitor may be asked at any point to submit proof of their Traveler's loadout, or face forfeiture and other possible repercussions.

Starship Combat[ | ]

Combat between starships comes in multiple formats. Oftentimes, battles may take place in loosely designated areas. For some examples; "stay within the atmosphere, stay within these caves, or stay within this fleet of freighters and frigates". Bases have also been constructed to completely contain starship combat.
A typical setup is having combatants begin within a Space Station, launching in unison and departing in different directions for 5 seconds before turning and fighting. The same system can be applied to a Trade Outpost.

Match Formats:

  • Ace Combat: 1v1 competition where the last Traveler flying is the winner
  • Squadron Combat: 2v2 or larger team-based competitions where the last Traveler flying secures a victory for all players on their team
  • Free-for-All Combat: 3+ competitors where the last Traveler flying is the winner
  • Objective-Based Combat: Any number of Travelers flying against each other to achieve a specified objective

Other non-standard match formats may emerge over time or often on-the-spot during events, falling into the above categories. One such example is:

  • Bounty: 1v2+ competition where the solo Traveler is allowed advantages over the other Travelers, to which many modifiers may be applied

Battle modifiers allow for further variety in competitions. Feel encouraged to have fun with it as long as all players agree to new rulesets!

Star League Rewards[ | ]

The reward structure is ever-evolving as both the playerbase and the economy grow, and may be altered ad-hoc by the Star League Administration on a per-event basis.

Standard Rewards[ | ]

Cadmium, Emeril, and Indium event placement is based primarily on total match wins, followed by any applicable kills.

The following is the base standard HubCoin Hubcoin payout, where C represents the total number of competitors in the event:

  • 1st: 30*C + 250 Hubcoin
  • 2nd: 20*C + 200 Hubcoin
  • 3rd: 10*C + 150 Hubcoin
  • 4th+: 10*C HubCoin

Micro Matches are events with four or fewer participants. As they are often more casual, the rewards are lessened:

  • Winners: C*10 + 50 Hubcoin
  • Participants: C*10 Hubcoin

There is no hosting bonus for a Micro Match.

Tritium Division Rewards[ | ]

Tritium games may have specific reward structures, but a base standard HubCoin Hubcoin payout is in place, where C represents the total number of competitors in the event:

  • Winners: C*20 + 150 Hubcoin
  • Podiums: C*15 + 100 Hubcoin
