The March of Xigbonia is a civilized space community.

Summary[ | ]

The March of Xigbonia is a Civilized space community, located in the Xigbonia region of Gamma quadrant in the Euclid galaxy. Activity is largely limited to Xigbonia, though occasional ventures outside of the region are made by its fleets in pursuit of criminals.

Background[ | ]

A number of years ago, the Xigbonia region of the Euclid galaxy was consumed by outlaws. Pirates and smugglers ran rampant, and any honest travellers were advised to steer well clear of the region. Only heavily armed trading convoys could travel through its star systems without being ambushed. With other galactic organisations failing them, the local populace could do nothing besides keep their heads down or move to a different region of the galaxy altogether.

This changed when a wealthy traveller began gathering a fleet to push the pirates out of this region. A great flagship, the MOX Hopebringer, became the basis for a much larger fleet, known simply as the Xigbonian Galactic Navy. This fleet was a patchwork of ships from a myriad of other fleets, specialising in all kinds of tasks. While varied and relatively disorganised, the firepower of its dozens of frigates was still overwhelming to the various infighting pirate gangs. In a short period, the large outlaw gangs dominating Xigbonia were wiped out, with any survivors being forced into hiding.

With their mission a success, the fleet elected their admiral, the traveller, as their Marquis. At that moment, the March of Xigbonia was born. The Marquis and the (mostly Vy'keen) high-ranking officials of his fleet turned to planetary administration, seeking a brighter and more stable future for the region. For the other systems that did not find themselves under a new governor, their denizens were happy enough to be rid of the pirate raids to become autonomous systems underneath the March's banner. In time, the March came to become the dominant de-facto government of the region, either through direct control or through securing the allegiance of locals.

Yet, with Xigbonia secured, their expansions ceased. The March never had any intentions to expand further than their current territory. Their true purpose? To maintain the status quo. To keep the region neutral and stable, ridding it of power-hungry factions, exploitative corporations, and ruthless outlaws. To document and research the systems and planets within its borders. To foster trade ties between systems, and to build great settlements to the benefit of the people. In Xigbonia, there are no wants for the future nor regrets about the past. There is only the present which, for now, seems to be as good as it can get. In truth, the March is barely a country or civilization in the traditional definition, more a loose partnership of systems working together for their mutual benefit.

Government[ | ]

The March of Xigbonia's government is simple in the sense that there is no real centralised government. The Marquis is a figurehead at best, and the local governors are rarely present as they still have their duties to the Navy. Star systems, space stations, planets, and settlements are free to do as they please, as long as they do not break the three laws of the March and pay taxes to the government.

Taxes are relatively low and can be paid in units, resources, manpower, starships, or many other things in negotiation with local governors. Taxes pay almost entirely for the Xigbonian Galactic Navy and the costs of running it. The Navy handles the protection of star systems throughout the Xigbonia region, with a large amount of frigates spread out allowing for rapid response times to potential threats.

In all non-military matters, the March of Xigbonia is a loose partnership between hundreds of smaller local entities, all contributing to a larger navy for their mutual defence. In matters of trade, construction, or research, the government plays no part.

Naming Guidelines[ | ]

The Euclid star systems and planets have been named by countless civilizations. These names, archaic and sometimes confusing as they may be, should be preserved in the case of star systems. However, for planets, the March has taken a more convenient stance of numbering their planets in relation to the star they orbit. For example, the Dombul system, an important heartland for the March, has five planets and one moon. The planet closest to the star is Dombul I, with the farthest being Dombul V. Moons are named after the planet they orbit with a letter added, so the sole moon of Dombul III is named Dombul IIIa.

In the case of ships affiliated with the March, primarily in the Xigbonian Galactic Navy, are allowed to bear any name they wish. However, to demonstrate their association with the March, these ships are prefixed with "MOX" (March of Xigbonia). For example, the Navy's flagship is called the MOX Hopebringer.

Joining[ | ]

Formally joining the March of Xigbonia is not possible thanks to its government form. It has a hands-off government, for the most part. Allegiance to the Marquis is not required to become a citizen or supporter of the March. If one wishes to declare loyalty to the civilization, they can simply begin bearing the "MOX" prefix to their starship, or create a base on any planet within the Xigbonia region bearing the yellow/white flags of the region. Almost every Star System acts independently in domestic affairs, so assisting its denizens will also be considered assisting the March.

Laws[ | ]

The March of Xigbonia has three laws to be adhered to within its borders:

  • Do not commit an act of piracy in Xigbonia.
  • Do not steal from a sentient lifeform in Xigbonia.
  • Do not kill a sentient lifeform in Xigbonia.

The only group exempt from any lawful protection are the Sentinels. Murder, theft, sabotage, or attacking spaceships is not only legal but encouraged by the primarily Vy'keen ruling class of the March of Xigbonia if done against the Sentinels. Check the local star system's space station for potential bounties or missions targetting the Sentinels.

Systems Discovered[ | ]
