Mineral Scan

Minerals are scannable non-organic matter.

Summary[ | ]

Minerals are scannable non-organic matter. Unlike fauna and flora, mineral discoveries cannot be uploaded.

They are the primary source of Ferrite Dust and other mineral-based elements. Large mountains, rock formations, and some small rocks/stalactites/stalagmites are generally backdrop and not scannable. Planetary minerals are found in three different terrain types; which are land, underwater and underground.

Underwater minerals tend to contain Salt and Chlorine. Usually, minerals with a primary element of Chlorine require an Advanced Mining Laser to be harvested.

Surface minerals may be exclusive to certain terrain features besides underground, such as plains containing large amounts of pebble-like minerals or minerals only found on top of large pillars. Underground minerals in caves almost always contain Cobalt but may have a small chance to contain a rare metal as their primary element instead of Cobalt, mainly Silver, Gold, Platinum, etc.

Most minerals can be mined using the Multi-tool for Ferrite Dust. The Scanner will indicate which primary and/or secondary element the player will obtain.

Scan Data[ | ]

The properties of the mineral are procedurally generated terms and don't have an effect on the gameplay, aside from Primary Element and Secondary Element.

Primary Element[ | ]

This is the main element that the mineral will give the player when mined. This element is usually Ferrite Dust or Cobalt for underground minerals.

Secondary Element[ | ]

Some minerals will give the player a small amount of a second element when mined, typically 10-12% of the amount obtained for the primary element but can be as little as 4-5%.

Crystals[ | ]

Some minerals are common to all planets and can be found in vibrantly-colored crystals that match the mineral they contain. These appear on the Scanner with their appropriate symbols on the periodic table. These crystal minerals contain:

Additional information[ | ]

Trivia[ | ]

  • Di-hydrogen has a very rare chance to be green if found underground in caves.
  • Diagenesis means the physical and chemical changes occurring during the conversion of sediment to sedimentary rock.
