The Admin noticeboard is a message posting page.

Summary[]

The Admin noticeboard is one way through which users can notify Administrators of issues needing administrative attention. While users are welcome to directly contact specific administrators (especially if they are seen to be active), posting here can be an easier and quicker way of ensuring that at least one admin will notice an issue and respond to it promptly. Remember to sign (using four tildes: ~~~~) when posting an issue.

Before posting an issue here, please consider the following:

  • This page is for reporting wiki issues (Post under Active Issue). Please post discussions on the talk page.
  • Post only issues that require administrative action, i.e. blocking vandals, protecting pages, restoring deleted pages etc.
  • Do not post deletion requests here. Deletion requests should be made by adding {{delete|reason for deletion request}} to the top of the target page, which will then automatically mark the page as a candidate for deletion.
  • Do not post issues regarding content disputes. Try making a request for comment instead.
  • Mediation requests between users should only be made once a resolution could not be reached between users.
  • For issues regarding the use of this wiki, please see our help center.

In case of vandalism, posting about it here is low priority. Revert it first, anyone can do so. If the vandal created a new page, tag it for deletion. Assume good faith and consider leaving a message on that user's talk page to explain the reason. Post here only if the user has made several disruptive edits and/or persists despite a warning. Always avoid a revert war with the vandal; it is far better to wait until an admin has a chance to intervene. If a user must be reported here, please use {{user}}, preferably as the topic subject/headline.

COMPLETE - Please Help![]

Dear NMS Wiki Admins-

I am making a page for my Company/Civilization (The page is Galactic Exploration Council), but when I try to add an Infobox it gives me an abuse warning message and does not let me save it, it says the problem is "Inlined Template" Please help me fix this so I can save my changes.

Thanks!- GalaxyCat1

Hello GalaxyCat1, it looks like the problem is due to the use of the visual editor. It would be advantageous to use the source editor. I adapted your embassy page to the standard civilized space template. If GDE is a company, then this template would have to be used. If you continue to have problems or questions, let us know! Btw: Here you will find some useful tips on creating a page. Thanks!Artifexity

Thanks for the help!- GalaxyCat1

COMPLETE - Civilized Space CensusCargo[]

Dear NMS Wiki Admin team,

I am writing this suggestion as it has just been a new year and the census tables have been reset. It seems that the censustable does not restart until February, but the counter says that there are many fewer bases than in the table.

I was thinking about this, and came to the conclusion that the census table could be changed to make it more accurate. And by the way, a new cargotable could be made so that all the bases that were once in a census could appear, since it would help users a lot in searching for the bases without categories or a cargoquery.

The census table would be like this:

{{#cargo_query:tables=Bases
|fields=CensusPlayer=Player Name, CensusReddit=Reddit Link, CensusDiscord=Discord Name, CensusFriend = Friend Code, CONCAT('{{Ilink|',_pageName,'}}')=Home Base, System, Platform, Mode=Game Mode, CensusArrival=Date of Arrival, CensusRenewal=Renewed, Game_release=Release
|where= Civilized LIKE '{{{1}}}' and CensusShow is not NULL and CensusRenewal = Year(Now())
|order by= CensusPlayer,Home Base
}}

And the other cargo table (which includes all the bases) would be like this:

{{#cargo_query:tables=Bases
|fields=CensusPlayer=Player Name, CensusReddit=Reddit Link, CensusDiscord=Discord Name, CensusFriend = Friend Code, CONCAT('{{Ilink|',_pageName,'}}')=Home Base, System, Platform, Mode=Game Mode, CensusArrival=Date of Arrival, CensusRenewal=Renewed, Game_release=Release
|where= Civilized LIKE '{{{1}}}' and CensusShow is not NULL
|order by= CensusPlayer,Home Base
}}
Like this one I made in the spanish wiki for example: es:Plantilla:CARGOCensusBaseAll

This would be a few examples and I think that's a simple change that could help users, especially new ones.

Thank you for considering this.

Sincerely,

Muhaddil (talk) 21:30, 1 January 2024 (UTC) +1:00

Hello Muhaddil, thanks for the suggestion. We are in the process of fundamentally examining and questioning the topic in general. We will share our ideas about this shortly. Artifexity (talk)
The census process has been reworked to better fit to civ specific needs. Details on what exactly changed and how to use the new functions can be found on the wiki news page. Let us know if you have any questions. Thanks! Lenni (talk) 18:55, 6 January 2024 (UTC)

COMPLETE - Request to initiate a community discussion[]

Dear NMS Wiki Admin team,

I am writing to formally request the initiation of a community discussion in alignment with the guidelines outlined in the Community Decision Making page. The focus of this discussion would center around leveraging the mediawiki API to streamline and enhance the wiki editing process.

The primary objective of this proposed initiative is to significantly improve the accessibility and user-friendliness of our wiki platform. Specifically, the project aims to facilitate the addition of discoveries to designated album pages by allowing users to submit images and information through a designated Discord channel. This streamlined process holds particular significance for console players as it significantly reduces the necessity for multiple devices or applications when uploading in-game screenshots to the wiki.

Currently, contributing content to the wiki involves a laborious series of steps where users must transfer console screenshots to their mobile devices, resize the images using specific applications, and then navigate the challenges of the wiki's mobile interface or resort to transferring the images to a PC for content creation.

My proposed project seeks to automate a substantial portion of this process. By doing so, it not only promises considerable time savings for contributors but also significantly diminishes the barriers to participation. This automation is aimed at simplifying the process of adding discoveries to the wiki, thereby encouraging wider and more inclusive participation from members of the Galactic Hub and potentially members of the wiki community at large.

It has been observed that a significant number of players within different NMS communities refrain from engaging in wiki editing due to the perceived complexities of the current process. The core aim of this proposal is to mitigate these obstacles, fostering a more inclusive and inviting environment that would ideally encourage a larger pool of players to actively contribute to our wiki.

I am enthusiastic about the potential positive impact this initiative could have on our wiki community and am eager to engage in a constructive discussion regarding its implementation.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,
Jgwinn93 (talk) 14:03, 18 November 2023 (UTC)

I'm on it. The discussion page will be at No Mans Sky Wiki:Discussion:Use API for Edits. There will be a notification once it's ready. Thanks! Lenni (talk) 22:10, 18 November 2023 (UTC)

COMPLETE - Steam deck - not steam deck[]

I am a PC and XBOX player and I thougt an addition to all the fantastic knowledge about the game would be a section with things we use to enhance the game experience. As my streamdeck, or some one elses 3D headset. I was looking out there and I was pretty unsucessfull finding any content that was not on redit and full of side tracks.

And how does the lefthanded setup their keyboards?

Is this a interesting Idea to add here, what utilities would we cover?

My Idea for where to begin is

  • Best keyboard setup
  • Best settings in NMS for
    1. ultra - high - low graphic cards
    2. XBOX one vs XBOX X
    3. PS4 vs PS5
    4. Steamdeck / different versions
  • How to best use 3D functions
  • Is eyetracker a thing in NMS?
  • Streamdeck and other external keyboard, macro-board-setups

Best regards // dpzOnline

Hello Theballoonboi, I will present your request to the admin team for a decision. Thanks! Artifexity (talk) 10:36, 7 November 2022 (UTC)
Decision: The team has decided not to add this idea, due to the individual and subjective criteria related to it, which do not allow a unified and general approach, as well as due to the constant changes after updates. Thank you for your suggestion. Artifexity (talk) 13:30, 9 November 2022 (UTC)

COMPLETE - Security issues regarding blank civilised space entries[]

At present Universe Templates contain Civilised Space entries that are blank by default. This is situation that inherantly facilitates the theft of discovery pages by said groups, as somebody could create a page and leave said entry blank, then a member of a Civilised Space they don't belong to could turn up later and accredit their group's without leaving an obvious trail for anyone to pick up on.

This is even more untracable in the case of a situation of a group retrospectively claiming their own members discoveries as their own, even before they were members. That is because in that case it could be the same user-name editing the wiki page they created originally, but at the point they were not actually part of the group, so the group should not get credit for their discoveries. The reason it is hard to trace is because we cannot prove they ever finished that entry of their original wiki page given it is blank by default.

I am not sure how exactly it should be set up instead. Perhaps the Civilized Space entry should be retired from being part of the basic and should have to be custom added to a wiki, that way if a new entry containing a discovery claim is added a long time after the page was created we know something is up. Or perhaps the entry should remain by default but should contain a claim that refutes any claim.

In the latter case the default template will need to contain two seperate anti-claims, one stating that no civilised space is present and the second stating that no civilised space is accredited with the discovery. The reason is that a civilised space should reasonably be able to edit the entry to record the fact of their physical presence without claiming to have documented it. GoblinCookie (talk) 10:31, 27 August 2022 (UTC)

All pages have history pages connected showing the changes made during the life of the page. Are these not sufficient to prove any change or update to the civilized= parameter? Is there a specific instance you have in mind that resulted in your note above? If so, fill me in on the details and I can research. Ddfairchildd (talk) 02:57, 28 August 2022 (UTC)

I don't feel comfortable leaving the space blank but admins keep insisting I do so. These are the reasons I do not feel comfortable doing so. I don't understand why, blank spaces don't even look good, they look unfinished; they suggestively invite finishing (the problem).

The history pages are perhaps sufficient if we assume that everyone has perfect eagle eyes for all manner of details. And a perfect memory regarding which user was in which organisation at what time. And so on......

A blank space simply does not record the information regarding civilized space not being claimed because it can have three possible meanings.

  1. No civilized space is present.
  2. No civilized space discovered/documented the entry.
  3. The wiki entry was not filled in.

Say there is a half-finished wiki page, created by a user than then went away for some time (lots of these on the wiki). Then someone turns up and finishes their wiki, adding in some missing entries and also fills in a civilized space entry in one act. Because they added a few extra entries in, it doesn't stand out like a sore thumb that what they are really doing is searching for such pages so they can fill in the empty slot to claim them for their organisation. To others it merely looks like they are finishing a wiki page. Yes you could spot that it is a different user, but we don't know that the original user is not also a member of the same organisation.

Then there is the retrospective member problem, the individual in question is actually a member of the organisation now but wasn't at the time they made the page, there it is even harder to figure out the organisation is taking false credit; no obvious record establishes their non-membership at the time and it is the same user name on the history log (doesn't stand out).

Lastly, we need to record the fact of discovery and the fact of physical presence seperately. This is because one does not imply the other yet with a single blank entry you are are denying both facts at the same time. At present the blank space is basically making two negative claims at the same time. Civilized spaces need to be able to establish their presence without also being able to claim discovery at the same time, as the former is so easy for the admins to determine just by reading history logs is it? GoblinCookie (talk) 11:56, 28 August 2022 (UTC)

If you take these arguments to their logical conclusion, then any time you create a page, of any type, you have to fill it out completely.
Blank values ARE legit, and we have to, and choose to, allow them.
While what you are describing may happen very rarely, I can guarantee you that it is not an issue we've had to deal with in the wiki. Again, if you have an example you'd like me to research, I can do so. Ddfairchildd (talk) 16:03, 28 August 2022 (UTC)

I wasn't suggesting we take anything to it's extreme logical conclusion (Slippery Slope Fallacy), I was pointing out that a specific issue exists in the present way you register claims by groups. Never did I claim *all* blank values should be prohibited on the wiki, only that they should not exist when there is a definite interest in filling them in. I am not arguing that blank values in general should be prohibited on this wiki. At the moment you don't just allow blank values, you enforce blank values and prohibit clear null statements like "No civilized space has discovered this place". You enforce these blank values even in cases when doing so is analogous to leaving blank cheques lying around, yes with sufficient vigilance you could keep anyone from filling in the blank entries but it isn't a valid argument for a security arrangement that with sufficient manpower an inherantly flawed arrangement can never-the-less be made to work.

The fundarmental problem is not actually inherantly that there is a blank space, but that the meaning of that blank space is not clearly defined as present because the meaning of the entry itself is unclear. That a civilised space is *not* present can indeed be conveyed through a blank space provided that it was left blank for long enough after the wiki page was visibly completed. You could even argue that maybe it would be a good thing for a half-finished wiki entry to be taken over a group that finishes it even if they then stamp it as theirs, but that really needs to be stated as policy with a disclaimer required. This is not the real problem, the real problem is that the present blank civ space entry makes two quite seperate null-claims at the same time.

  1. That no group discovered the entry.
  2. That no group is present at the entry.

You wanted an example so I will give you one, okay it's not a strict example of the problem but it is good example of *why* it's a problem. Take the Octons Band, 'discovered' by your fellow admin Celab99. He declares that his group discovered the whole region even though it appears that his group made no documented discoveries in that region at all. Instead the same individual, operating under the auspices of another group, has documented merely a single system, AGT Cel-Fefham within the region. The exact arrangements are unclear, did these groups merge or is he simultaneously part of two seperate groups at once, perhaps as two individuals in different save-files. Exactly what transpired here does not really matter, the point is that it is difficult to figure out at a glance what is actually going on when the same individual can claim to discover a region for one group and then also claim to have discovered the only documented system *in* said region for another group. Refer back to the 'retrospective member problem' I mentioned above.

We need to clearly distinguish between X discovered Y and X is found in Y. In the former case we need to ensure that the claim is made only initially when the page was created, which is why a statement of "This was not discovered by any group" would do well as a default entry so noobs who create a half-finished article cannot have their article finished by somebody who then claims ownership of the find. A blank civ space entry would still potentially work howevever provided we were clear the entry was "documented/explored by" rather than "present in general".

The regions template where we have a clear region space is actually not the worst case. In that case at least a civ space can honestly declare the nature of their relationship to the wiki entry, clarifying the info-box, that we discovered X or we are present in X or both. The worst situation is actually the info-box itself where anyone can write their Civ Space into the entry while needing to make no statement at all regarding what their relationship to it even is. As I said the null entry actually makes the claim that two things are not the case and by merely filling in the entry with no other claims you are in effect claiming both are the case at the same time.

Inherantly civilized spaces are not territorally exclusionary. The vastness of the game is such that many groups could exist quite happily on the same planet along with unaffiliated individuals and all the groups in existence could probably happily exist in the same region likely without their members hardly even coming into contact. Why make the game exclusionary by imposing onto the game general claims of ownership over vast spaces at all? The only need for exclusionary claims is when we are talking about credit for documenting something existence to the wiki because that involves work.

Just because one group or an unaffiliated individual discovered (by which is generally meant merely setting up a wiki page) an object does not mean that another group cannot then move into the area and declare they are present there. They should have a means to do so without also claiming to have discovered/documented it. GoblinCookie (talk) 16:16, 30 August 2022 (UTC)

Summary[]

I feel I have been not been quite concise enough and have been psychologically treating this as a debate when we are all on the same side. The problems I describe are.

  1. If we use a blank space to register the lack of a discovery claim by a group, it is difficult to determine whether that discovery claim was left blank as the intention of the author or whether it was just a function of the page being complete, even if we have a second user how do we know it isn't a second member of the group? This is especially problematic if the original author has since joined the group in question but wasn't in it when the page was created.
  2. At present the field for civilisation fails to clarify adequately if we are talking about the discovering or the group present in the area. The former has to be exclusive, while the latter needs to be open-ended as more than one group can be present at the same.

These problems can be fixed by a few simple changes to the templates. The problems are here referred to as Problem 1. and Problem 2. respectively.

  • The civilisation field in the info-box should be replaced by discovering group, this addresses Problem 2.
  • An entry similar to what exists on the region template should be added to the system/planet templates as well; except it should say Civilised Spaces (plural). This addresses problem 2.
  • Atop the Civilised Spaces entry should be by default the following statement "This [Region/System/Planet] was discovered by: No Civilised Space." The last part of the statement is to be edited upon the creation of the page to refer to a specific organisation, should the initial page creator wish to attribute them. This means that anybody can just refer back to the initial version of the page to determine if the exploration claim is genuine, this addresses problem 3.

Hello GoblinCookie, thank you for your explanations and suggestions for improvement. I see what you are pointing out. However, I think that due to the rarity of these problems, no changes to the templates are necessary. I will present your request to the admin team for a decision. Artifexity (talk) 10:33, 7 November 2022 (UTC)
Decision: The team has decided not to make any changes to the templates in this regard. Due to the rarity of this event and the admins monitoring of the pages, there is no need for this. The admins will take individual steps if necessary. Thanks again for your suggestions. Artifexity (talk) 13:39, 9 November 2022 (UTC)

COMPLETE - Duplicate Multi-Tool Name[]

Hi, I've discovered an S-class rifle-type multi-tool called Aspect of the Nexus. However, there is already a pistol-type multi-tool of the same name. What's the correct thing to do here? Create a new page with _2 at the end? ReversePolishNotation

Aspect of the Nexus rifle
Hello - I am not an admin but I have documented a few things like this. Of course I always default to what Dave Fairchild prefers, so take my idea as only a suggestion. With items like this, I have used the region name or the name of the civilization where its found to distinguish same-named items. I think there wouldn't be much problem in a name like Aspect of the Nexus (region name here) as the official wiki page name. You could even explain the naming convention in your page if you desired, but I don't think is necessary. Intothedoor (talk) 19:46, 13 June 2021 (UTC)
Not sure what happened, but I had posted the following the evening of the 12th - <shrug>. Anyway, here's my lost reponse!
Yes, this does happen occasionally as the names of multi-tools and starships are built from a collection of phrases. When it happens, you create the new page using the name of the multi-tool, followed by the star system it came from in parentheses. Here's an example: Bane of Sight (AGT Fastule). Hope this helps - thanks! Ddfairchildd (talk) 03:43, 13 June 2021 (UTC)

Great. Thanks for the advice. I'll do that. ReversePolishNotation

COMPLETE - I want to add a civilization to this wiki[]

Hello Admins so I was wondering if I could add a civilization to this wiki. It is called the Aldernian order. I just started it and I was wondering if I could get some info on how I can do this. The instructions already given did not make too much sense to me. I was wondering if someone could explain this in more detail and help me out.

Thank you-MasterofTurtle

COMPLETE - Missing Refinery backrefs from Source(s)[]

the Source section for Gold lists various paths to make more Gold:

but there are no matching entries in the (auto generated?) Use section of the inputs, examples:

Thanks for the catch on this one - looks like it has been an issue since at least Sept 2019, but it has now been corrected. There were five or six other resources that had the same issue, and they have also been addressed. Again, thanks! Ddfairchildd (talk) 06:03, 25 December 2020 (UTC)
Thanks for fixing it! Gold looks a lot better now, but i found another one: https://nomanssky.gamepedia.com/Condensed_Carbon lists Cyto-Phosphate as one of the Sources, but CC is not listed as a target in https://nomanssky.gamepedia.com/Cyto-Phosphate
Hmm. I see that Condensed Carbon can be crafted in a refiner with Cyto-Phosphate as an ingredient (Algal Processing). And on the Cyto-Phosphate page I see that that same process is listed under the Refining section. I think we're good? Ddfairchildd (talk) 16:39, 31 December 2020 (UTC)

Sources on Condensed Carbon:

Cyto-Phosphate x1 → Condensed Carbon x1 ("Algal Processing", 0.6 sec./unit output)

Refining on Cyto-Phosphate:

Condensed Carbon -- Cyto-Phosphate x1 → Condensed Carbon x1 ("Algal Processing", 0.6 sec./unit output)

Not listed for me: https://i.imgur.com/272mdcy.png ... and doesnt seem to be a caching issue on my end either. (checked phone, desktop, firefox, chrome)
Go to the Cyto-Phosphate page and in the upper right, click the dropdown by the star. Select "Purge Cache".
It is out there correctly, I see it distinctly on my pages, both on my PC (via Chrome) and on mobile. Ddfairchildd (talk)
purging the (server side) cache did indeed fix it for all devices here. are you using a different gamepedia server instance or so? and/or is there some way to do that click for all these "gamepedia instances/servers"? because it seems bad for something like that to stick around for ... i dont know how long until enough people happen to click a not-so-obvious button?
Cases like this tend to be the great exceptions, most of them resolve themselves within 24 hours. Ddfairchildd (talk) 04:57, 3 January 2021 (UTC)

COMPLETE - NEW Origins Planet Parms for consideration[]

The Secondary missions log now displays additional information about planets that is not shown the discovery screen. Much of this information is new, for example:

  • Age of planet
  • Atmospheric elemental content and percentages
  • Primary core element
  • Geology descriptor
  • Other notes

We may need to consider additional parms for planets/moons to record this information. A complete dataset of valid values and representation is not available at present, but the AGT is collecting info.

COMPLETE - Civilized Space vs Civilized spaces categories[]

I was doing some page cleaning and thought it was a minor typing error when I realized we seem to have both categories which are mutually confusing and both have large numbers of subpages. May I suggest we consolidate them into one category or the other? Celab99 (talk)celab99

Our category pages have two sub-categories. One is the actual thing above them that owns them (for example, a star is owned by a specific region). The second is the family to which they belong. This can be Planets or Moons or Star Systems. Or in this case, Civilized spaces and Companies. But the sub-category is plural. So "Civilized Spaces" is the subcategory name we want.
The category of Civilized Space is assigned via the CivSpace banner, in the same way that GHUB comes from the GHUB banner, or the Qitanian Empire's banner assigns it to Civilized Space. This makes sure that the embassy page is assigned directly as a Civilized Space.
While they are similarly named, they each have a specific purpose. Ddfairchild (talk) 23:36, 21 June 2020 (UTC)

Ok I will reverse some of the adjustments I made to a few pages categories, but the issue remains, many pages are mixed and matched between categories, and we need a more logical and obvious manner to organize them, label into sub categories. I'd suggest a more explicit subcategory branch naming system like has been done for civilization subcategories. May I suggest we have a more real time chat on this on Gtalk sometime in the next week or two? I will send you an email with a set of suggestions and then we can bounce it around Celab99 (talk) 08:34, 22 June 2020 (UTC)celab99

COMPLETE - CARGO Table for Planets is not picking up updated fields from Moons (June 18, 2020)[]

Following recent updates to the Planets cargo table, it has been observed that the planet cargo table is NOT picking up new edits to fields from the infoboxes for moons. The moons are listed in the planets cargo table, but further updates to those moons to correct their civilized, biome, etc fields will not be reflected in the CARGO table, even after doing a purge. It is observed that updates to planet records occur and reflect as expected in the planet cargo table. For example, please look at the following moons in the Planet CARGO table and note that biomes and civilized states are not properly picked up:

Celab99 (talk) 08:35, 18 June 2020 (UTC) celab99

This issue should now be fixed. Thanks for the catch. Ddfairchild (talk) 16:12, 18 June 2020 (UTC)

COMPLETE Stick sensitivity[]

Am I the only one who has noticed that adjusting your stick sensitivity only effects the right stick and has no effect on the left stick? Also would it be possible to add a feature where you can swap the stick functionality when flying? I'm so used to playing shooters and trained to use the right stick for accurate targeting and when in flight I am forced to use the left stick and I am having a hard time adjusting. It would be hard to believe that no one else has an issue with this.

COMPLETE - Requesting That My Civilization Be Updated from Inactive to Active (June 7, 2020)[]

I have been away from the game for a while because of irl issues and my civilization seems to be marked as inactive sense the living ship update. I would like for my wiki page for my civilization to be updated to the latest NMS update and not be marked as inactive.

Hey, welcome back to the wiki! Every time a new release drops, we take a look at the civs on the Civilized space page and check their wiki activity. Those that don't seem to be wiki-active still maintain their embassy and all related pages, their entry is just not carried forward to the "updated" civspace page (which is what you've noticed). All it will take to get you back on the active list is to add some new exploration page (say a star system) and we can get your entry back on the active page. Keep me posted, and again, welcome back! --Ddfairchild (talk) 19:37, 7 June 2020 (UTC)
Thank you for your reply, tho my civs wiki seems to be locked, as I have no access to edit it. For reference my civ is Darkk Sector Syndicate.
Ah, good point. I have now eased the lockup restriction a bit for you. Your embassy page can be edited by editors with an actual wiki account; however it is still off-limits to anon editors. Thanks! --Ddfairchild (talk) 03:46, 8 June 2020 (UTC)
Thank you :)

COMPLETE - Requesting Creation of Cargo Table (May 2, 2020)[]

Requesting assistance from an admin to create the cargo table for Template:Creatures Expanded/CargoDec. I would like to test out cargo functionality with this by linking it to Template:Creature_infobox_expanded, allowing the GCAS to delve deeper into fauna research than currently possible with the current creature infobox. Thank you. Ertosiangel (talk) 22:50, 2 May 2020 (UTC)

Thank you for the new parm suggestions. A group of eight qualified editors has reviewed your expanded infobox, and selected three of the nine new parms that they really liked. They have been added to the existing regular infobox for Creatures, and the columns added to the existing CARGO table. You can adjust your CARGO query to reference the available fields as needed without needing a new table created. As far as the five wiki pages that are using the Infobox Expanded, please convert those back to using the updated Creature infobox. Thanks. Ddfairchild (talk) 14:24, 8 May 2020 (UTC)

COMPLETE - Space Encounters (20 February 2020)[]

Hey, I just added an article for Space Encounters. It's a shell right now, but I want to get an icon for it on the main page if that's possible.
Thanks! https://nomanssky.gamepedia.com/Space_Encounters

AnEnemyChampion (talk) 23:26, 20 February 2020 (UTC)
We have a large number of icons on the main page already at this point, and are looking to possibly reduce the number instead of adding additional items. But thanks for the suggestion! Ddfairchild (talk) 06:18, 8 May 2020 (UTC)

COMPLETE - The Pilgrim (St3amb0t) (27 October 2019)[]

Hello! I am working toward keeping the lore of the Pilgrim's Path alive, and I've found some issues you might not be aware of. Unfortunately, the planet that St3amb0t walked around no longer exists, but I have found a ride to the star system that Dr_Bananagrams named Starfall, which is the famous Pilgrim Star.

With that being said, this base no longer exists: Pilgrims Base Camp

I would be more than willing to bring an admin out to my newly established Pilgrim's Base Camp to allow for pics and information, if needed. My PSN is IcedEnigma. Thanks for all you do!

thanks for the updates, I will add a note to the Pilgrims Base Camp page indicated that it no longer exists. As for information on the new camp, I would suggest we create a page for the new base you've created, and you can update as necessary. Sound good? Ddfairchild (talk) 23:33, 27 October 2019 (UTC)

Help on Dirty Bronze to fix "no display" of Geodesite under its Crafting section (Sept 25 2019)[]

I've added a quick discussion on what I tried on the Dirty Bronze talk page. Additional help on getting it fixed is requested. ThadG (talk) 01:36, 26 September 2019 (UTC)

We are in the process of converting all of the "blueprint/crafting" pages to using a new display macro. As a result, some may not show complete information as related pages may not have been converted yet. If you have questions about a specific page (such as Dirty Bronze), contact Beerbelott as he has been very generous with his time to actually undertake the conversion. Thanks! Ddfairchild (talk) 04:48, 26 September 2019 (UTC)

COMPLETE - Documenting previous versions of the game (22 August 2019)[]

I think we should do something to write more texts about how the game was before, especially before the Atlas Rises (1.30). As someone who mostly played before Atlas Rises, I remember finishing the entire Atlas Path by collecting Atlas Stones and I never quite understood what the Travellers were about since they got introduced in 1.30 and I still have to start the Artemis Path. I also mostly spent time with Polo and Nada before 1.30 and I'm having a hard time remembering what purpose they served. Such enhancements to existing articles would be a great way to document the numerous changes in No Man's Sky, and they would be helpful for players like me who are trying to transfer pre-1.38 saves to Beyond. (As a matter of fact, I tried doing so and it seems to work... The Atlas Path is still in my Log with the sole objective to "Explore the galaxy". I'm not sure I'll be able to start the Artemis Path though... -BowiQC (talk) 20:19, 22 August 2019 (UTC)

Many of our pages do contain information from previous versions, although certainly not written up specifically as pre-AR pages. On items that can be crafted, for example, there is often a release-history section giving a brief overview of the release changes. Some pages contain archives from previous version - you can tell those by looking at the top of the page for a disambiguation statement. You can look at the history of a page and page through these to see see each change that was made in succession. Some pages have not been updated SINCE Atlas Rises and before, you can tell those by the banner at the top telling under which release the page was last updated.
However, I'm sure you can also understand that those using the wiki for the current release of the game are gong to far, far, exceed players working from earlier versions of the game, such as yourself <g> ANd that being the case, we really have to do our best to keep the wiki current as much as we can. So in short, there are ways you can investigate the early stages of the game; it may not be straightforward, but all the information and all the changes are still out there to be found. Thanks Ddfairchild (talk) 03:50, 23 August 2019 (UTC)
Thanks for the info!--BowiQC (talk) 05:05, 27 August 2019 (UTC)

COMPLETE - Screenshots in Catalog for edible Products contain a duplicate Picture[]

At this page https://nomanssky.gamepedia.com/Catalogue Under Cooking Products the fourth Picture has the right thumbnail, but the picture is identical to the third picture in this row.

I have reviewed the page in question, and the third and fourth thumbnails are different. If you click on the actual thumbnail, the resulting pictures are also different. I'm not seeing the issue you are reporting? Ddfairchildd (talk) 14:51, 17 September 2020 (UTC)

Other Translations[]

COMPLETE - Russian translation (13 June 2021)[]

Hello, I want to ask you to add Russian wiki for this game to the main page. It has more than 700 articles and an address https://no-mans-sky.fandom.com/ru/wiki/No_Man%27s_Sky_Wiki. Thank you in advance.

This wiki and the Russian wiki you indicated are now linked. If you go to the main page and look for the Languages section, you will see a link there. Thanks! Ddfairchildd (talk) 01:59, 16 June 2021 (UTC)

COMPLETE - German translation (8 August 2016)[]

Hey there, I just wanted to ask if it's possible to start a German translation of the Wiki? marclu00 (talk) 06:57, 8 August 2016 (UTC)

Yes, we can do a German translation. We just ask you go ahead and translate the main page using the translation guidelines and a couple other pages and we can get it spun up. Let me know if you have any questions! --Alianin T •  C 12:51, 8 August 2016 (UTC)
If you need any help translating correctly or someone to proof read your translations you can contact me through my talk page. --TakaNoYaiba (talk) 16:41, 16 August 2016 (UTC)
The wiki is up and the translations are moved over. Let me know if you need anything! --Alianin T •  C 21:13, 23 August 2016 (UTC)

COMPLETE - Traditional Chinese translation (18 August 2016)[]

Hi, I am wondering if we can do Trad. Chinese translation for NMS wiki? I can do the translations since I do this for living (and simplified too if needed). Also what does it takes to become an admin for wiki? Wanted to be NMS wiki admin :) Love this game so much! Twitter from Murrey about adding add lang support for NMS > https://twitter.com/NoMansSky/status/756900190859264000 --Wei2Awesome (talk) 23:48, 18 August 2016 (UTC)Wei2Awesome

Yes, we can do a Chinese translation. We just ask you go ahead and translate the main page using the translation guidelines and a couple other pages and we can get it spun up. Which version of Chinese? There's a few different ones we can use. Let me know if you have any questions! --Alianin T •  C 19:26, 20 August 2016 (UTC)
Ok i think I figured out what to do, give me one second creates some crucial pages with mark with zh-TW. Thanks--Wei2Awesome (talk) 21:26, 22 August 2016 (UTC)
Copying my responses over from my talk page.
Hello! Yes, your example is correct. For the main page use "No Man's Sky Wiki/zh-tw" and then put in your translation of the page there. We only need the main page and a couple others, just to show there's interest and we can get things moving! --Alianin T •  C 17:33, 22 August 2016 (UTC)
Are you sure about zh-tw? That's Chinese (Taiwan). There's these options: zh - Chinese, zh-hans - Chinese (simplified), zh-hant - Chinese (traditional), zh-tw - Chinese (Taiwan), and a bunch of others, but those are the popular ones. I just want to make sure we spin up the correct language. --Alianin T •  C 17:44, 22 August 2016 (UTC)
Ok, the lang code page doesn't show any of those when i open it only shows zh .... welp..I think Ill have to redo them. Now I'm going create pages with "/zh-hant" with Category: zh-hant translation at the bottom of each page! Sorry about the miscreations under zh-TW, please delete them with /zh-TW.--Wei2Awesome (talk) 21:43, 22 August 2016 (UTC)
I see you're creating the pages, great! That's the first step. The next step is to actually translate the content of those pages into Chinese. --Alianin T •  C 22:05, 22 August 2016 (UTC)

That's the confusing part, do I translate them or admin like you going auto-translate with program and I edit them if there's errors? I can totally translate them (in fact all the pages) except I need clarification on who's going to translate. Also do I keep create more pages with /zh-hant marker (once translation is complete on the one that's marked) or I can just create page in zh-hant for pages that's not yet associate with zh-hant sub? Thx!--Wei2Awesome (talk) 22:45, 22 August 2016 (UTC)

  • It'd be you translating, we generally tend to shy away from autotranslating and defer to people who are more familiar with the language. - Wagnike2 (talk) 19:00, 23 August 2016 (UTC)
There is no autotranslation, unless you count copying the text into Google Translate. :D You or someone else will need to manually translate the pages. --Alianin T •  C 19:10, 23 August 2016 (UTC)
Got it, I will translate them and put them on the page I created such as No Man Sky Wiki/zh-hant accordingly ? Then you guys will make them into sub-domain and delete these temp pages? correct? :D --Wei2Awesome (talk) 19:29, 24 August 2016 (UTC)
Correct! --Alianin T •  C 20:34, 24 August 2016 (UTC)

COMPLETE - Translation to Brazilian Portuguese (10 April 2020)[]

Hello, I'll help in the translation of the pages because the brazilian wiki is stoped. I've already updated the News and patches. I have to send informations or anything else in an specific page? ForomirDeAlioth (talk) 10:00, 10 April 2020 (UTC)

I believe you can just continue to translate pages as you see appropriate. Thanks for your help! Ddfairchild (talk) 16:00, 10 April 2020 (UTC)

COMPLETE - Translation to Brazilian Portuguese (17 February 2019)[]

Hi, i'm brazilian and our NMS wiki it's actually pretty sad. There are just 691 pages and 235 articles and no one edit anything for months. With the multiplayer there a lot of new brazilian players and most people don't speak english here, so i was wondering if we can translate the English NMS wiki.

I saw here in your page a German and a Chinese guy asking to do a translation, but how does that work? The translate pages will be in the old brazilian wiki or I have to create a new one?

--Verticalringsofuranus (talk) 23:42, 17 February 2019 (UTC)

Thanks for your question about the Brazilian translation. Sorry to say, but there is no automatic page translation built in to a wiki.
However, if you want to take current English pages and do the translation into Portuguese, that would be greatly appreciated. Ddfairchild (talk) 16:41, 18 February 2019 (UTC)

COMPLETE - Making French No Man's Sky wiki (22 August 2019)[]

Hello there, I'm a french guy and I wanna help you to translate english wiki into french wiki (for the french community). The problem is that I don't know how I can create the french wiki, so please can you help me ? Thank you very much, on behalf of French No Man's Sky Community :) IndiGanGaming (talk) 20:01, 22 August 2019 (UTC)

French is my native language. I could help, but I'm a beginner like you!-BowiQC (talk) 20:27, 22 August 2019 (UTC)
The wheels have been set in motion for a French version, and it should be in place sometime tomorrow. Please note that there is no automatic translation available; you will need to take each page and do the translations. I applaud your willingness to help out - merci beaucoup! I'll put a note on your profile page once it's ready. Ddfairchild (talk) 01:17, 23 August 2019 (UTC)
A branch for a French wiki has been created, here's the url: https://nomanssky-fr.gamepedia.com/No_Man%27s_Sky_Wiki . We just ask you go ahead and translate at least the main page using the translation guidelines and a couple other pages for starters. Let me know if you have any questions - thanks! Ddfairchild (talk) 14:33, 23 August 2019 (UTC)
Oh thank you very much, I go now edit this new wiki. Thanks a lot ! I just started to begin the translation :) IndiGanGaming (talk) 21:48, 25 August 2019 (UTC)
