Explained - Expeditions Update Name Changes is an explanation page.
Summary[]
With the Expeditions release, the cross-platform universe has been combined, with the oldest discoveries taking precedence. This has the potential to affect the way certain pages have been created and maintained in the wiki.
If you are wanting to make a change to a page for a planet, moon, or star system that has been documented on more than one platform, the following general steps will be required.
NOTE: the term "star" will be used below for ease of reference, but this applies to planets and moons as well.
Which Page to Keep?[]
First, you will need to determine which pages in the wiki document the star you are changing. There are two basic possibilities:
- the star pages have different names on the different platforms
- the star names have the same name, but at least one of them has the platform in parentheses at the end of the name
Depending on the page names, the editing process will differ.
Option 1 - different names[]
1) Make the following change to the page that will be used going forward:
- add an entry to the alias names section where XXX is the platform of the page that will no longer be used, and OldName is the name of that page. If the star was documented on all three platforms, then you will need to add two lines.
{{Aliaslegacy|platform=XXX|text=Legacy|name=OldName}}
2) Make the following change to the page that will no longer be updated:
- delete the Current alias names entry and replace it with the following, where XXX is the platform of the page that will no longer be used, and OldName is the name of that page
{{Aliaslegacy|platform=XXX|text=Legacy|name=OldName}}
Option 2 - same names but with parenthesis at the end[]
1) Make the following change to the page that will be used going forward:
- edit the page and copy the entire text
- use this information to create a new page with the same name, BUT add the platform at the end in parenthesis (example: if the name is MyStar, then your new page might be MyStar (PC))
- return to the original page and delete the Current alias names entry for all systems in the list with a parenthesis at the end. Replace them with the following, where XXX is the platform of the page(s) that will no longer be used, and OldName is the name of that page
{{Aliaslegacy|platform=XXX|text=Legacy|name=OldName}}
- add a new entry to the alias names section where XXX is the platform of the page that you just created above, and NewName is the name of that page.
{{Aliaslegacy|platform=XXX|text=Legacy|name=NewName}}
2) Make the following change to the pages on the other platforms that will no longer be updated:
- delete the Current alias names entry and replace it with the following, where XXX is the platform of the page that will no longer be used, and OldName is the name of that page
{{Aliaslegacy|platform=XXX|text=Legacy|name=OldName}}
