Release indicators[]

  • All pages that contain an infobox include a parm called "release" to show the correct release
  • an ambox banner (see below) will display at the top of the page indicating which release era the game information relates to, and what that release is. This banner automatically puts the page into a category related to the release.
NOTE: this banner will not show when viewing pages with the current release tag, although it should still be coded on the page.

Changes to infobox and preload templates can now be made only by the admin team. With the amount of traffic and use these pages receive, unexpected changes could cause major issues in the wiki. If you'd like to suggest a change to one of these templates, either post a note on the page's Talk page, or send a note to a member of the admin team.

Banners[]

The banners for the various releases can be seen at the Template:Version page.

Editor changes[]

If you need to update a page from a previous era, there are three levels of changes to consider.

Minor changes[]

These changes ONLY apply to the release already indicated on the page, and not to the latest release. An example would be correcting a misspelled word or other typo. For this type of change, all that is required is to change the info, and leave the "version information" as-is.

Regular changes[]

These are changes to a page that are needed to bring the page from a previous release over to the new update. An example would be updating a star system where two of the listed planets reverted to their original names, but the rest of the page matches with the previous era.

For this type of change, include the following changes in your edit process:

  • change the banner tag at the top of the page to indicate the new release
  • change the release parm in the infobox (if the page has one) to the new release
  • (optional) if there are several important changes, add a "Release differences" section near the bottom of the page and note what the original information was that you had to change. This provides a historical record for future reference. An example might be if all of the documented ruins on the planet are no longer there, and it is now a Gek system instead of Korvax. See the Tulich page for an example.

Major changes[]

This type of change is most often related to an index-style or catalogue page where many links are made to other pages. An example would be the Euclid galaxy where many of the listed regions no longer exist, or have been renamed. It could also occur on a planet or star system page where most of the discoveries had been renamed and then reverted to their old names, as well as having biomes and other features rearranged.

The best process for this type of page has two steps (using a page from SentinelUp as an example):

1) copy the code of the entire page and use it to create a new page with the original information. The name of the name page should be in the form of "xxx (SentinelUp)", where xxx is the name of the original page. At the top of the new page, add the following disambiguation notice, customizing it with the proper page name (instead of ABC) and the name of the original page (instead of XYZ). This will indicate that the information on this new page comes from the old era, and include a link to the regular page, which will now be used for the current version.
{{DisambigMsg|the [[SentinelUp]] version of ABC|the current version|XYZ}}
2) return to the original page and add a similar notice to the top of the page indicating that the information on this page comes from the current era, and include a link to the older version of the page. Then make whatever changes are needed to the page to remove all information that is not related to the new release.
{{DisambigMsg|the current version of ABC|the [[SentinelUp]] version|XYZ}}

You can see an example of this procedure on the Player Base (Atlas) page.

New pages[]

When adding a new page to the wiki, be sure to include the same version information mentioned above in the Release Indicators section. (banner and infobox parm).

Mismatched pages[]

The following pages have a mismatch between the Version macro and the Release parameter in the infobox:
