Nonlinear Optics (Infra-Knife Accelerator) is a starship upgrade.
Summary[ | ]
Nonlinear Optics (Infra-Knife Accelerator) is a technology that uses the Infra-Knife Accelerator icon and has different crafting recipes, but is otherwise identical in appearance to the Photon Cannon upgrade Nonlinear Optics. It adds a third shot to each volley of Infra-Knife Accelerator, effectively increasing its base damage output by 50%.
Game description[ | ]
Replaces the conventional Photon Cannon optics with an experimental glass array, boosting combat performance.
Significantly improves heat sink capacity.
Crafting[ | ]
Nonlinear Optics (Infra-Knife Accelerator) cannot be crafted.
Original formula:
Destablised Sodium x3 +
Wiring Loom x2 →

Additional information[ | ]
- The third shot added by Nonlinear Optics overlaps one of the two existing shots. Since damage numbers from Infra-Knife Accelerator shots in a volley do not visually combine to show volley damage (rather, damage numbers from individual shots tend to overlap), this makes it very difficult to confirm in-game that the upgrade is working as intended.
- One way to force the shots to have non-overlapping damage numbers is to shoot a fauna in a specific spot near its critical-damage area. If done correctly, only one of the two overlapping shots will land a critical hit (the other two shots will land non-critical hits, either directly or via splash damage), causing all damage numbers to become visually distinct.

Bug (1.50): The game description and type incorrectly refers to the Photon Cannon, instead of Infra-Knife Accelerator. Please report this bug here.
- Beyond - Blueprint changed, Technology Module was renamed to Wiring Loom.
- Synthesis - Obsolete, replaced by the Q-Resonator
