Procavya is a genus.

Summary[]

Procavya is a genus of fauna in No Man's Sky.

Procavya species can resemble a wide range of Earth organisms, including rodents (the common name used by the game code), moles particularly star nosed moles, reptiles, and more. They are related to, but separate from, the Procavaquatica genus, which is the genus for swimming fauna which resemble the Procavya genus.

Procavya species can be found on land, including in caves.

Major Variants & Characteristics[]

Procavya can be divided into two main subgroups: arched-back and flat-back. Flat back Procavya species tend to resemble moles and beavers, while arched back Procavya species tend to look closer to bears and porcupines. Both subgroups can be found with mammalian, reptilian, or even avian heads.

Flat-backed specimens heads are roughly level with or slightly lower angle than their shoulders and spine.
Arch-backed specimens can vary in arch height from species to species. Some species have a low arch, while others have a higher one.

If presented with a creature that one cannot tell if it is of the Procavya or Theroma genera, here are some tips to differentiate:

Only Procavya and Procavaquatica have beaver, monkey, shark, or tufted tails.
Procavya heads are unique to their genus and the Procavaquatica genus.
Procavya legs and Procavaquatica legs also bend inwards more compared to the legs of Theroma.
- Procavya legs are always a matching set; they never have different front and back legs.
- Procavya never have hooves or elephant-like feet.
Look at the species in question on the Discoveries tab. Procavya stand with their bodies centered over the display circle while Theroma stand with their front feet on the center of the circle. Additionally, Theroma will be displayed relatively shrunken in size.
Watch the idle animation of the species in question. Theroma heads bob in a synchronized manner with their tail, and always in the opposite direction. Procavya heads bob in an erratic manner compared to their tails.
