The Scholars and Cartographers Guild is a civilized space community.

Summary

The Scholars and Cartographers Guild (shortened SCG) is a civilisation focused on the exploration and documentation of star systems and their planets across the No Man’s Sky galaxies.

Mission

The SCG aims to explore and document as much of the No Man's Sky universe as possible, in hopes to aid future explorers, give reference to future discoveries and preserve the current data as of when it was discovered. The SCG also aims to offer assistance to any Traveller or civilisation wishing to upload their discoveries and data to the wiki, accepting donations of units, nanites or unique information in return, if the client so desires. These donations are however never enforced, and the service will always be available for free.

The SCG is a friendly, welcoming community that does not only focus on the exploration of No Man's Sky, but also aims to offer a save environment for players alike to gather, have fun and enjoy other aspects of life as well as other games.

Background

The Scholars and Cartographers Guild started as an established idea on the 28 December, 2020. NinjaAiden began planning the idea after he received numerous requests for aid creating wiki pages for various different Travellers and Civilisations, hoping to use the SCG as a way to help document all aspects of the game and aid others more efficiently. The first goal was then to fulfil the requirements for registering a civilisation in advance, to expedite the creation of the SCG and allow it to become more visible to others more quickly. As of 2 January, 2021, five star systems had been documented, including various fauna and flora from each planet, albeit not all. A home base was constructed on the system of Lahshiya, so that members of the SCG may have a place to meet up with others and share their discoveries and experiences more easily with one another. It now aims to upload all these discoveries and become a registered civilisation.

Naming Guidelines

The Scholars and Cartographers Guild does not follow any strict naming guidelines, instead preferring to document all discoveries as they appear within the game, to give reference to future discoveries and preserve the current data as of when it was discovered.

Joining

There are currently two ways to join the SCG. You can:

Members

A membership list can be found on the Census - Scholars and Cartographers Guild page.

Scholars and Cartographers Guild Census

Once you have joined the SCG, you should fill out the [Cenus]. This fulfils a few goals:

  • It gives the staff of SCG a good idea of the size of the community
  • It allows other players to connect with one another more easily, by being able to identify game mode and platform.
  • It allows the SCG staff to more easily organize events to be accessible to all members.

Rules

The Scholars and Cartographers Guild Community Guidelines

  1. Harassment & Hate
    1. Be nice to others, and keep all discussions civil.
    2. Do not organise, participate in or encourage harassment or hate of others.
    3. Disagreements happen, but continuous, repetitive or severely negative comments may cross the line into harassment and are not tolerated.
    4. It’s unacceptable to attack a person or a community based on attributes such as their race, ethnicity, national origin, sex, gender, sexual orientation, religious affiliation, or disabilities.
  2. NSFW
    1. Like a good fight, keep it clean.
    2. There is too much to list every weird thing that isn't allowed, but a good rule of thumb to go by is: if you think it's too explicit, it probably is, and shouldn't be posted.
    3. Just be away that you don't know who you may be talking to, and to keep any banter respectful and age appropriate. Youngsters can also be present here!
  3. Graphic and/or Gross Content
    1. This one is a bit more straightforward; don't post real gore or graphic violence to shock other members.
    2. Don't post anything that depicts any kind of mutilation, torture or harm to any being. And don't post anything that glorifies or encourages any of the above, not even in the NSFW channel. This is a serious offence and will result in an immediate ban.
  4. Self-Promotion and Advertising
    1. You may not directly advertise or promote yourself or others. This includes posting links to other Discord servers.
    2. A serious violation of this rule is poaching or directly soliciting members of our community. We are not against competition, however our members wish to enjoy their time in our community without harassment.
    3. Do not post advertisements with the intent to solicit members, or advertise a competitive Discord, as this will violite our guidlines and result in an immediate ban.
  5. Politics and Religion
    1. Except in the discussion channel (where you engage in these topics at your own risk), please avoid discussions concerning politics, religion and similarly controversial topics. These often lead to conflict where there needn't be any.
    2. Everyone should be able to come together and enjoy their time here, either by playing No Man's Sky or just engaging with the community, without worrying about political stance, religion or other beliefs and values.
  6. Selling and Buying
    1. Do not attempt to make a sale or sell anything within this Discord server. This extends to any medium.
    2. The majority of the time, sales attempts made via Discord breach some form of ToS, whether that be Discord's own or any other. There are websites designed for you to easily list and make sales, use those instead. Discord is not the place for this.
