Concerning: Subterranean Variants are Always Hostile Characteristic[]

I've found subterranean crabs which are nonhostile, so either 1. Not all subterranean Bos are hostile, or 2. Conokinis are also able to spawn underground.

As nonhostile crabs do spawn underground, one of those two facts is outdated. Ertosiangel (talk) 10:35, 23 March 2020 (UTC)

Where exactly do you see the page say “subterranean variants are always hostile”? All I see is “...with subterranean variants being hostile most of the time.” Jgwinn93 (talk) 07:57, 24 May 2020 (UTC)

All versions of the page earlier than March 23, 2020. Remember that wiki pages are living documents so what one says now can be different that what it previously said. Ertosiangel (talk) 11:59, 24 May 2020 (UTC)

Ahh understood. I believe it was previously thought ALL underground Bos were hostile. But as examples of non-hostile ones started popping up. This view changed and at some point and was changed in the wiki. Jgwinn93 (talk) 12:43, 24 May 2020 (UTC)

Concerning Bos Subtypes[]

The creature names used on this page, especially those referencing subtypes, should be reduced down to only those actually used by the game code, Spider and Floating Spider in order to avoid confusion with other similar genera. The id Crab is used solely in the game code to reference to Aquatic Bos, which is considered a separate Unknown genus, and the terms Beetle and Sun Beetle is solely used to reference the Conokinis genus and its associated mesh and texture files. Thus all references to Sun Beetle and Spider-Crabs should be removed from this page, leaving the only two true subtypes used by the game for Bos of Spider and Floating Spider. Other descriptors can be used on a equivalent level to other Genus pages such as "crab-like" and "beetle-like", as could showing the various appearances as body part images, as long as it is clear those terms by themselves are reserved for other similar genera. I 100% disagree. Are there certain rules for this wiki saying we can only describe genera based on terms the game code uses? To say only a Bos is a spider and only a Conokinis is a beetle will only further confuse players on the difference between the 2 closely related genera. Since we know both genera share the same models, all terms should be used to visually describe them. I have made clear in my descriptions the origins and intended uses of the terms Sun beetle and spider-crab in this page. Jgwinn93 (talk) 08:11, 24 May 2020 (UTC)

There are ways to word it to help avoid confusion, such as an intro in the summary along the lines of "While terms like Beetle and Sun Beetle' are used strictly by the game code to reference Conokinis and Crab to reference Aquatic Bos, each of these three related genera can have identical body forms and parts with species of each being able to appear spider-like, beetle-like, or crab-like." Something like that would go a long ways towards meeting both sides preferences of keeping strictly accurate when possible and reducing confusion. I feel it would be much better than using a game code term meant for one genus to define a different genus; swapping names like that would be far more confusing to the average player. At the very least, the page is going to need an Additional Information line directly stating what each of these related genera is labeled as in the game code. Now this is something I 100% can agree with :)
I did elaborate a little more before reading this on what terms were game code terms and how they were being used in this page instead for visually descriptive purposes. However, I can add your explanation into the page as well. I have also been treading lightly with the aquatic Bos genus situation as the community decides how we will handle that dilemma. Regardless, will update as necessary. Jgwinn93 (talk) 12:43, 24 May 2020 (UTC)
