Based on my observations, the seed is a bit different between Normal and Survival modes. An example:

I visited HUB-G-11B Radar Rat Race because I'm very interested in hellish planets like the Red Death, but it turned out completely different. The majestic canyons are now mostly flat lands, the weather isn't extreme, but the sentinels are still hostile. The planet names have switched as well. In the wiki page, it's the ice planet that's named "Gohoferryal" but in my survival mode game, it's the non-extreme hot planet that's named "Gohoferryal". G5457s (talk) 23:38, 7 April 2017 (UTC)

Yes, this is an unfortunate fact. If you look at the fact that there are four modes, two platforms, and two languages (Brit and US), we are basically trying to document 16 different games all in the same wiki. It does make for a bit of confusion, unfortunately. One solution we will be implementing is adding entries to the infoboxes to allow indications of which mode and which platform the initial discovery was made on. An interesting observation. I visited HUB-G-11B Radar Rat Race again. Landed on the planet "Kakinghie Regem" which is most likely the seed name for the Red Death. In PC Survival Mode, it's an extreme desert planet with no flora and fair fauna. Lots of predators too. Seems like the planet's terrain, extreme weather, sentinel behavior, amount of flora and fauna carry over but the biomes are different. Gonna keep playing to observe and discover more about the differences between Survival and Normal modes. G5457s (talk) 03:42, 28 April 2017 (UTC)

This surprises me not at all. It's one of the reasons why we are seeing more notes in the wiki specifically indicating the game mode the user was playing. And why the new Alias names section I've been adding to various pages has naming columns for the different modes. One thing I'd be interested in is whether or not the planet/star names carry over between modes. For example if you name a star in survival mode, then you visit it later in normal mode, which name does the star have - the original or the rename? Ddfairchild (talk) 14:42, 28 April 2017 (UTC)

This may be a stupid question, but is the rate of inhospitable planets maybe greater in Permadeath mode? I've only seen 11 planets so far, but literally all of them have been impossible to walk around without constant resource drain. 213.66.206.113 21:12, 7 June 2017 (UTC)

By definition, each mode gets more difficult than the last in one way or another. One thing that may also make it appear that Permadeath is nastier is the in-your-head knowledge that even one mistake could end the game. You can liken it to watching a sports match where your favorite team is involved. All the calls that the refs make go against your team, or at least it seems that way. In Permadeath, all the calls are going to go against you...even if they aren't REALLY doing so<g> Ddfairchild (talk) 02:33, 13 June 2017 (UTC)

Has anyone done any specific research into whether the game modes are the same or different since the Visions update, or even since the Next update? The page now states they are all the same since Atlas Rises. Gaming Mike (talk) 16:00, 4 February 2019 (UTC)
