Sentinel Drone/Starship pages?

The "Types" section is woefully inadequate. There's currently no equivalent page for Drones and Starships like there is for Quads and Walkers. Seems like an odd inconsistency. Currently "/Sentinel_Drone" redirects to this page, which is even weirder because there's nothing specific about Sentinel Drones on this page. I'm happy to create/fill out pages for Drones and Starships (and possibly frigates?), but I'm not sure how to remove the redirect. Notsononymous36483 (talk) 09:45, 5 September 2019 (UTC)

What you ask for in "starships" is LONG in the wiki for freighters AND exotics on their respective CATALOGUE pages. I wrote those myself. There is no reason to write all that on the starship page. It talks about the game element starship, not the specific types for which the catalogues stand in. You can add a Sentinel Drone/Warrior Drone page and link it to the type page if you want. Just copy the format of the other two.Thamalandis (talk) 13:49, 5 September 2019 (UTC)
Was your reference to starships referring to the Sentinel Starships, or regular starships? As for creating the other page(s), feel free to so, extracting whatever relevant info is on the current page. Once they are out there, we can change any reference links and redirects to point to the new page. Some background on why there is no Drone page... Originally the Sentinel page was all one long page, with drones, quads, walkers, etc all there together. As the page got longer, the Quads and Walker sections were extracted into their own pages. If you ask the average player to picture "sentinel", it's the drone they think of, so that information was kept on the initial page (since that's where most people wanting to learn about sentinels would first visit). But yeah, drones probably deserve their own page. Ddfairchild (talk) 14:27, 5 September 2019 (UTC)
Yeah I was referring to Sentinel Starships and Frigates (which aren't player obtainable right?). I'll set about writing at least the Drone page soonish Notsononymous36483 (talk) 17:17, 5 September 2019 (UTC)
Of course the capital freighter of the sentinels is obtainable. There is no difference to the player one. It is one of the two capital designs. Feel free to write a page about the AI ships of the sentinels.Thamalandis (talk) 19:27, 5 September 2019 (UTC)

Sentinal Alerts outdated?

Does anyone know what exactly is supposed to be outdated? It seems fine to me, although it could potentially be merged with the wanted level section Notsononymous36483 (talk) 19:36, 3 September 2019 (UTC)

Several wordings are off, for example it doesn't separate between hostile and non hostile ships. You can always assault red exhaust ships (marking for hostile) first without any risk of attack. Also you can unearth artifacts like Vortex cubes etc. in ancient ruins. Picking them up still turns them hostile. In general all actions need to be checked against the 2 planet types (High Alert / Low) to make sure they still work identical.
Sidenote, as you added the 3 pictures in the table or DDF did I don't know, remove the 3 on the side. It "breaks" format in 720p unless you zoom out the page. It also is redundant.Thamalandis (talk) 23:40, 3 September 2019 (UTC)
I added the pics and yes, we only need one set. Which version do you prefer, right-side or as part of the table? I'm good with either...Ddfairchild (talk) 00:48, 4 September 2019 (UTC)
The side pictures always risk "differences" between 720p, 1020p etc. Putting them in a text line is better. Keep the "new" ones and just add the picture text to the main article.Thamalandis (talk) 01:28, 4 September 2019 (UTC)

Current Rework and Adjectives

You still need to readd the tables for the 3 categories about "remote" "aggressive" etc. While it might only be visible after landing (or in the discovery info potentially) it is part of the games documentation. Since you removed the old L/H order categories... try to procure the current list of adjectives on your travel. Ultimately it SHOULD be readded with the current adjectives. It will NOT be left out.Thamalandis (talk) 16:38, 3 September 2019 (UTC)

That is the plan. They can be viewed from the discovery panel, but unfortunately it doesn't tell you which of the three categories an adjective belongs to. Will create a table later once I actually have a few from each level to put in. Notsononymous36483 (talk) 16:50, 3 September 2019 (UTC)

Sentinel behaviour and planet scan info

There's currently no explanation (as far as I can tell) on this page as to what "Aggressive Sentinels", "High Sentinel Activity", and no information about sentinels means when you scan a planet. Can anyone add it? Notsononymous36483 (talk) 17:32, 2 September 2019 (UTC)

New topics should be added on top. That aside, Aggressive is the same as before, red sentinels, kill on site. High activity means active patrols to prevent theft of natural resources and murder. And no sentinel info means they only defend strategic locations from travellers. Thamalandis (talk) 17:41, 2 September 2019 (UTC)
Moved to top. Are the behaviours listed in the "Behaviours" section those which describe sentinel behaviour in the description of a planet in the "Discoveries" tab for a planet? If so, that should eb made clear. As the page is written, there's no way to tell that this is the case. Additionally, can these behaviours be grouped by the three planet scan tiers of "No info", "High Sentinel Activity" and "Aggressive Sentinels"? Notsononymous36483 (talk) 09:20, 3 September 2019 (UTC)
Yes, the new ingame system of Aggressive, High and None can be used to sort the attributes associated with it in the wiki. Before we had to "guess" how active which group is based on observations. Now we could sort them in the 3 tiers. Feel free to start documenting which of them spawns on which planets.Thamalandis (talk) 13:21, 3 September 2019 (UTC)
Hmm. As far as I can tell there are two types of information available in game to the player about sentinel activity on a particular world. The first is when you initially scan a planet from space, and it will either say nothing, "High Sentinel Activity", or "Aggressive Sentinels". Then, once the player has landed on the planet, there's a description of the sentinel activity. For example, I landed on a planet with no sentinel icon from the space scan, and then when I landed it said the sentinels were "Remote" (which can also be seen from the discovery tab).
I think there are two discussions here. The first is that the Sentinel page should at least mention the three levels of Sentinel aggression that the game tells the player about. The second is what exactly the "behaviors" which are currently mentioned are, for example "Aggressive (H1)". I'm still unclear about that myself. Is there any way for the player to access information about these behaviours in game? If there's no way to discover whether a planet has Sentinels with a certain behaviour, I'm not sure there's much point having them listed. Notsononymous36483 (talk) 15:06, 3 September 2019 (UTC)
With all these answers it feels pretty likely you never played before Beyond. Your "remote" text is one of those L/H informations, just updated for Beyond. Beforehand there was no space information about sentinel activity and there were no "no sentinel" worlds. ALL had sentinels, just on differing severity. Remote means that. There is no active sentinel patrol and its effectively free of them, but they still guard facotires and depots. So you would sort things like "Remote" into the category "No Sentinel/Low Sentinel Activity" as a top category. And since this is a MAJOR change to the sentinel behaviour... BEFORE this happens... this page should be archived as legend status so "Sentinel (Visions)".Thamalandis (talk) 15:25, 3 September 2019 (UTC)
There, I archived a version under Sentinel (Visions). Now the behaviour area can be reworked. Thamalandis (talk) 15:29, 3 September 2019 (UTC)
Correct, I only started playing after Beyond. Going to rewrite the behaviour area. Over time I guess it would be good (but not strictly necessary) to have a table of what descriptions go with which activity level, for example both "Remote" and "Spread Thin" are possible for a world with low sentinel activity in the space scan. Sentinel Levels

As I added some of them I can confirm they DID exist. Not sure if they still do. My screenshots are old.Thamalandis (talk)

Even if they are no longer used, they should still be in the game files, but so far I did not find these words in relation to sentinels, only in conversation-like texts. I will keep my eye on these when checking further files. Would you mind uploading those screenshots? Thanks! Gorla (talk) 22:28, 21 May 2019 (UTC)
I normally kept those infos to add planet data etc. in the pre NEXT era. I also often delete them once I write the system page. I rechecked some of them that are not deleted - mostly exotic - but didn't see them. Let's just declare them lost in time or in translation. I don't particularly care. Thamalandis (talk)

Aggressive Sentinels

I've encountered "aggressive" sentinels which attacked me unprovoked. This seems to disprove what is said in this article about them being peaceful until you disrupt the environment in some way. Does anyone else have this experience? -148.167.132.250 23:22, 16 August 2016 (UTC)

On "high-security" planets or planets with sentinel behaviour "Hostile", sentinels will attack unprovoked. Read the planet description to see if it fits. Kushcer (talk) 11:50, 5 September 2016 (UTC)

Malevolent Force?

Is there any reason to actually think that the Sentinels are the "malevolent force"?

Response

It depends on a variety of factors, including the planet or wanted level. The Sentinels article indicates that "On high-security planets where endangered resources are likely, sentinels will attack on sight." If the player's wanted level is still high from a previous encounter, it may also attract sentinel attention.

The sentinels may be the Maleovelent Force, or possible a collective entity created by that force.
