Measuring Distance[]

Since HG removed the easy and guaranteed distance information from the galactic centre waypoint, many have taken to very liberal interpretations of distance in the wiki. Some argue "angle of measurement", which is dangerous, others argue perspective... the same risk.

The camera ingame is on a circle when a system is chosen which you can rotate. But the distance shown is for your camera position in DISTANCE to the system. The reasonable solution is to take geometry to find the true distance. If the zoom is not changed (don't touch up and down!) the highest and lowest distance around the circle and from those the average (or either apex +/- half the difference) will show the ACTUAL distance. This is by math! And in my eyes, it should be used since HG took away our easy option.

Anyone that argues for angles or perspectives.... each click does get different zoom levels if not done in perfect symmetry for every measure. So the distance deviation from the truth differs GREATLY. In my check on the 3 claimants of the centre record 2 of them had equal mistakes and one was BIG. So someone had shifted their zoom level.

The angle method is weak to zoom errors, the average works REGARDLESS of zoom as long as both values are taken and averaged in the same zoom level. Can we all just stick to basic geometry for accurate values please?Thamalandis (talk) 23:02, 11 November 2020 (UTC)

Example 1

For Endenn the real distance is between 1.158.992 lowest distance and 1.159.072 highest distance, which is 1.159.032ly in the center were the system is. This works for ANY zoom eliminating the zoom error if both values are taken on the same zoom level.

Example 2 - Zephyrus, data from Atlas Rises with the Distance Measure of HG still there https://nomanssky.gamepedia.com/Zephyrus_(Atlas)

Now with current application of basic geometry:

You got 818.840 and 818.694 as distances for the radial apex. Their diameter is 840-694 = 146 which is a radius of 73. 818.840 minus 73 is... 818.767. The EXACT historic value.

I know there is a Background Story somewhere, about the Exotic Biome Shared or Pillared planet.

Reordering Visited Systems in Discoveries[]

Renaming discovered systems just introduced a peculiar mechanic. Visiting a system that was renamed will appear as newly discovered. דָּנִיֵּאל (talk) 05:21, 1 October 2024 (UTC)
