Ungulatis spelling May 24, 2020[]

ertosiangel has done some datamining into ExoMech 2.24 and discovered that Ungulatis is listed in that version as Ungulatus (with a final u). I've done some research on this, and here's the history:

A reddit post by 7101334 in October 2016 contains much of the same information later placed in the wiki, and it is the earliest reference I can find to either genus.

The first reference in the wiki with the current genus listings was in January 2017 during the Foundation release. The "Unknown" genus was added at that time as well.
There are a variety of pages that refer to "hexungulatis" (see below) but I can find no references on the internet to "hexungulatus".
My suspicions are that when the game was first released, the game file spelling WAS "tis". While one of two spellings might have been a typo, it's unlikely that both would have been typed incorrectly. If that is the case, then there was a spelling change along the way from HelloGames. If that is indeed the case, I suspect that it happened when the NEXT release came out. That's when various other things happened to some creature definitions (for example, dropping the extra decimal digit for height and weight)

So how do we address this? The notes on the pages about the spelling differences are good documentation, but I have changed the "incorrectly" to "differently" until research has been finished.

Before we decide on changing the page names, we should review some game files if possible from earlier additions of the game to see which spelling was used there. The Visions 1.77 version has been checked, and the spelling there is "tus". It would be an amazing find to get ahold of an Atlas Rises (or before) game file... Anybody?

If we do decide to change the page (and it's looking likely that we will), I agree with Ertosiangel that we should do a rename and leave the old spelling as a redirect. Ddfairchild (talk) 06:29, 24 May 2020 (UTC)

Horn Limitations?[]

In all these years, I don't think I've ever seen horns attached to most of the head variants of Ungulatis (the exotic heads, the tyrannosaur-like "tusk" heads, et cetera). Is there a coding limitation on which heads these accessories can attach to, or has that just been my own luck of the draw? If so, we should probably include that in the notes about the genus, however.

Also, is the "stone-skulled, spider-jawed" head that you see in this genus the same one listed as "mouth variant turtle", or is it a different one? It does seem to often be attached to the regular turtle head during dimorphism. — Somarinoa (talk) 15:22, 10 April 2023 (UTC)
