UPDATED - Conversion Issues (22 October 2020)
It is likely that some of these IDs will be grouped together, but that has yet to be determined. If you have input on this particular item, feel free to post on the Talk page.

  +
The recent conversion of the wiki to a new platform has resulted in several issues.

  +
*CORRECTED - The Refine and Cooking macros no longer work properly. This has been reported to Gamepedia who have indiciated that a fix has been made, and "hopefully will be in the next deploy, which might be the third week of October."
Infobox / CARGO table updates (24 September 2020)
A variety of new parameters and CARGO items have been added due to Origins.

  +
*The search functionality now displays a new screen, and the searches are somewhat different. Noticeable changes:
Creatures

  +
**CORRECTED - a new panel shows on the right highlighting one of the wikis in the Fandom universe. It will be related to what you searched for
; activity: Whether the creature is Diurnal or Nocturnal

  +
**CORRECTED - the link for creating a new page based on what you searched for no longer displays. When asked if this function will be brough back, Gamepedia has replied "hopefully it will at some point."
  +
**the proper capitalization for other than the first word used for a search now matters if you are searching in the Template: area of the wiki. "Template: civilized space" will no longer show possible page suggestions. Instead, "Template: civilized Space" or "Template:Civilized Space" is required.
  +
**search is much slower and not as focused on the results returned

  +
*CORRECTED - Creating new pages is no longer an option from the Search page. Several other options exist:
Star systems

  +
**use the entry box on the wiki's main page
; multiplestars: Number of stars in the system (only if more than 1)

  +
**use the entry box on the Community Portal page
  +
**modify the url of the page you are on, setting the page name portion to the name of the new page

  +
*Some editors get a continual message that their email needs to be verified. Gamepedia has suggested trying at https://c.fandom.com/ as a first attempt. If that fails, create a ticket at http://gamepedia.zendesk.com/
Multitools

; crystals: does the multitool have crystals?

; horns: does the multitool have horns?

; glowtubes: does the multitool have glow tubes?

*When posting a page link in Discord, the primary page image no longer displays. Gamepedia says this is a known issue.
(See the Multitool Groupings new items for further information on these three flags)

  +
*A new rendering system is being used to display "File:picname" pictures in the wiki. This may result in the display not being as crisp as before.

Galaxy regions and eras (7 October 2020)
Multitool Groupings
  +
Most galaxy pages list their discovered regions in a single list.
The seven old categories from Pathfinder days are being retired, and the three new items listed in the news item above will be used instead. As a result, the category parameter will no longer be used going forward. Multitools will be grouped as follows:

  +
Due to a large number of regions, however, five do not. Euclid separates discoveries by region prefix, and will continue to use this method.
Type: Pistol / Rifle / Experimental / Alien

Add-ons: Crystals / Horns / Glow Tubes

  +
Hilbert Dimension, Calypso, Budullangr, and Eissentam have changed from listing each game release separately, and will now combine regions into groupings based on year. The breakdowns are as follows:
When entering an add-on, any value in the parm will cause it to display. A simple 'Y' is recommended.

Infobox / CARGO table updates (30 August 2020)
+
New Macros (7 October 2020)
  +
Two new macros have been added to the library. They are as follows:
A new parameter of researchteam has been added to the infobox for Creatures. This field will NOT be displayed in the infobox, but will be used to create a hidden category for the page in the form of researchteam - Creature Research. This will allow research teams to record their research work while working across other civs or unclaimed space. After an initial test for Creatures, it will be added to our other infoboxes.

  +
* Biome - creates an alias link to the desired Biome - XXX page.
  +
<pre>
  +
Frozen will create a link of Frozen
  +
</pre>

  +
* NewPlanetOrigins - creates a standard phrase showing that a new planet has been added to an existing system. (See Sept 27 note on usage)
The Coordinates parm has been added to the CARGO table for Multitools.

  +
<pre>
  +
MyPlanet} will create a sentence of "NOTE: MyPlanet added to this system during the Origins update."
  +
</pre>

  +
For a list of additional macros, check No Mans Sky Wiki:Explained - Macros
Automated categories (13 August 2020)
Any page using the Planet/Moon/Star System/Region infoboxes will now have their "name" category field automatically built. The preload pages have been updated to remove the boilerplate category text. If the name parameter is missing from the infobox, the name of the wiki page will be used to create the category text. The category page itself will NOT be created, just the link.

Starship preload (31 July 2020)
+
Infobox Standardization (28 September 2020)
  +
All of the wiki infoboxes have been reviewed, and the following items have been standardized:
Information required for the starship preload page has been simplified. An automated category is now created based on the starship type, and the "SEE Catalogue" line has been removed, as a reference to the catalogue is already present on the page.

  +
* the label for the release parameter has been changed to Updated to better indicate what the field indicates (the version under which the page was last updated).
Multitool infobox (31 July 2020)
  +
* for infoboxes that use Galaxy/Region etc, the display order has been standardized to Galaxy/Region/System/Planet/Moon, and they will occur directly under the image. The moon parm has been added to those where it was missing.
A new parameter of moon has been added to the infobox for Starships. Up to this point, the planet parameter was used, which provided potentially misleading information. This parameter and the planet parameter have been added to the CARGO table as well.

  +
* The researchteam mentioned below on the 30 August note has now been added to the remaining relevant infoboxes. (Creature/Flora/Mineral/Moon/Multitool/Planet/Starship/System) Note that this parm is NOT automatically loaded via the preload templates, but will need to be loaded by hand if you wish to use it. If the value would be the same as for the civilized parm, then leave the field blank.

  +
NewPlanetOrigins Macro (27 September 2020)
Options for ilink and link templates (July 24, 2020)
  +
When updating a star page from a previous version to Origins, a new planet may have been added due to the Origins release. The following steps should be followed:
The ilink and link templates display a regular page link that generates a pop-up of the link's infobox if you hover over the text. These templates are most often used in lists, such as product ingredients or catalogs.

  +
# add the new planet to the list/table of planets (if present)
They have some new usage options, both for display and for editing:

  +
# add the NewPlanetOrigins macro after the planet list/table to add a standard note about the change
  +
# update any pictures on the page that show the old system layout to show the updated version instead
  +
# update the infobox to show the new planet/moon numbers
  +
# update the Version macro and the Release parm in the infobox to Origins

Frigates (23 July 2020)
:; multiplestars: Number of stars in the system (only if more than 1)
A new catalogue page has been added for Frigates. Unlike our other catalogue pages, there is only a single page that lists all documented frigates in a single view. If the number of reported frigates grows significantly, the page can be split up. As part of this effort, the "type" parameter of the Starship infobox now provides a direct link to the catalogue page for that starship type. When creating a frigate page, use the subtype parm to indicate the frigate's specialty.

General Infobox (20 July 2020)
:; crystals: does the multitool have crystals?
A new General infobox has been added to provide infobox functionality for items that don't normally qualify for an infobox, but would benefit from the presentation. It contains a set of general paramters shared by all infoboxes. This infobox is now used on the Polo and Nada pages, as well as the ATT - Talon page which describes a fictional exocraft. Other usages may include a page for a company subsidiary so that it would not need to use the Company infobox. Unlike other infoboxes, there will be no CARGO storage maintained.

:; horns: does the multitool have horns?

:; glowtubes: does the multitool have glow tubes?

:(See the Multitool Groupings item below for further information on these three flags)
Desolation Updates (16 July 2020)
All preload templates have been updated to show the Desolation tag. In addition, the Navigator stub has been removed from the Star System, Planet, and Moon preloads due to minimal use. The Navigator section header will be retained for consistency with previous versions.

Base
When using preloads to enter documentation from Crossplay or earlier versions, be sure to change both the Version macro and the release= parm to show the proper value. If you notice pages that need updates to provide for Desolation information, send the admin team a note.

:The moon parameter has been added to the CARGO tables.

Civspace Categorization (6 July 2020)
+
Multitool Groupings (24 September 2020)
The seven old categories from Pathfinder days are being retired, and the three new items listed in the news item above will be used instead. As a result, the category parameter will no longer be used going forward. Multitools will be grouped as follows:
All of the wiki Civilized Spaces and Companies have been recategorized for consistency. You can view the main category here. This main grouping consists of three sub groups:

:Type: Pistol / Rifle / Experimental / Alien
* Civilized Space - Civilizations: contains all civspace pages

* Civilized Space - Companies: contains all company pages

* Civilized Space - Support: misc pages relating to the civspace idea

:Add-ons: Crystals / Horns / Glow Tubes
If an older civspace has been renamed or merged into a newer one, the older entry will be listed as "belonging" to the new entry and will not show as an independent civspace.

  +

When entering an add-on, any value in the parm will cause it to display. A simple 'Y' is recommended.
  +
  +
Infobox / CARGO table updates (30 August 2020)
A new parameter of researchteam has been added to the infobox for Creatures. This field will NOT be displayed in the infobox, but will be used to create a hidden category for the page in the form of researchteam - Creature Research. This will allow research teams to record their research work while working across other civs or unclaimed space. After an initial test for Creatures, it will be added to our other infoboxes.
  +

The Coordinates parm has been added to the CARGO table for Multitools.

If a civspace has subgroups across multiple galaxies, these will also show as "belonging" to the parent entry, unless it is obvious that the subgroup is indeed independent.

These may include new infobox parameters, new reference pages, updates on page standards, etc. etc. If you have suggestions or comments, leave a note on the talk page. Entries will stay on this page for three months.

Preload Template updates (16 November 2020)

All preload templates have been updated to default to NextGen when loaded. If there are catalogue or other framework pages you see that should be updated to NextGen but are not, contact the admin team.

Reference Guidelines (30 October 2020)

A new wiki policy document for providing sourcing information has been added to the wiki, based on recommendations from the Gamepedia/Fandom staff. It can be reviewed at Reference Guidelines. The policies described will begin on 1 November 2020.

CARGO table updates (27 October 2020)

The CARGO table for Starships now includes the cost/discovered/discoveredlink/researchteam parameters. The Multitool infobox now contains discovered and discoveredlink.

UPDATED - Conversion Issues (22 October 2020)

The recent conversion of the wiki to a new platform has resulted in several issues.

  • CORRECTED - The Refine and Cooking macros no longer work properly. This has been reported to Gamepedia who have indiciated that a fix has been made, and "hopefully will be in the next deploy, which might be the third week of October."
  • The search functionality now displays a new screen, and the searches are somewhat different. Noticeable changes:
    • CORRECTED - a new panel shows on the right highlighting one of the wikis in the Fandom universe. It will be related to what you searched for
    • CORRECTED - the link for creating a new page based on what you searched for no longer displays. When asked if this function will be brough back, Gamepedia has replied "hopefully it will at some point."
    • the proper capitalization for other than the first word used for a search now matters if you are searching in the Template: area of the wiki. "Template: civilized space" will no longer show possible page suggestions. Instead, "Template: civilized Space" or "Template:Civilized Space" is required.
    • search is much slower and not as focused on the results returned
  • CORRECTED - Creating new pages is no longer an option from the Search page. Several other options exist:
    • use the entry box on the wiki's main page
    • use the entry box on the Community Portal page
    • modify the url of the page you are on, setting the page name portion to the name of the new page
  • When posting a page link in Discord, the primary page image no longer displays. Gamepedia says this is a known issue.
  • A new rendering system is being used to display "File:picname" pictures in the wiki. This may result in the display not being as crisp as before.
  • The Visual Editor currently freezes when trying to edit a page with a gallery containing pictures. It does work on other pages.

Galaxy regions and eras (7 October 2020)

Most galaxy pages list their discovered regions in a single list.

Due to a large number of regions, however, five do not. Euclid separates discoveries by region prefix, and will continue to use this method.

Hilbert Dimension, Calypso, Budullangr, and Eissentam have changed from listing each game release separately, and will now combine regions into groupings based on year. The breakdowns are as follows:

  • Year 1 - Release / Foundation / Pathfinder
  • Year 2 - Atlas Rises
  • Year 3 - NEXT / Abyss / Visions
  • Year 4 - Beyond / Synthesis / Living Ship / ExoMech / Crossplay / Desolation
  • Year 5 - Origins

New Macros (7 October 2020)

Two new macros have been added to the library. They are as follows:

  • Biome - creates an alias link to the desired Biome - XXX page.
Frozen will create a link of Frozen
  • NewPlanetOrigins - creates a standard phrase showing that a new planet has been added to an existing system. (See Sept 27 note on usage)
MyPlanet} will create a sentence of "NOTE: MyPlanet added to this system during the Origins update."

For a list of additional macros, check No Mans Sky Wiki:Explained - Macros

Infobox Standardization (28 September 2020)

All of the wiki infoboxes have been reviewed, and the following items have been standardized:

  • the label for the release parameter has been changed to Updated to better indicate what the field indicates (the version under which the page was last updated).
  • for infoboxes that use Galaxy/Region etc, the display order has been standardized to Galaxy/Region/System/Planet/Moon, and they will occur directly under the image. The moon parm has been added to those where it was missing.
  • The researchteam mentioned below on the 30 August note has now been added to the remaining relevant infoboxes. (Creature/Flora/Mineral/Moon/Multitool/Planet/Starship/System) Note that this parm is NOT automatically loaded via the preload templates, but will need to be loaded by hand if you wish to use it. If the value would be the same as for the civilized parm, then leave the field blank.

NewPlanetOrigins Macro (27 September 2020)

When updating a star page from a previous version to Origins, a new planet may have been added due to the Origins release. The following steps should be followed:

  1. add the new planet to the list/table of planets (if present)
  2. add the NewPlanetOrigins macro after the planet list/table to add a standard note about the change
  3. update any pictures on the page that show the old system layout to show the updated version instead
  4. update the infobox to show the new planet/moon numbers
  5. update the Version macro and the Release parm in the infobox to Origins

Genus for Creatures (24 September 2020)

Based on datamining of the Origins code, it appears that the genus classification has not been extended to the new creatures being introduced. All creatures (old and new) will have an associated ID and TYPE, but only the old creatures will have GENUS.

The Coordinates parm has been added to the CARGO table for Multitools.
